My taste are eclectic at best, and mood of what i want to listen to often changes. It always comes back to Make it Wit Chu by Queens of the Stone Age. managed to see them perform it at Madison Square Garden a few years back.
PhantomNVD: All time favourite is REM Nightswimming https://youtu.be/ahJ6Kh8klM4
But for a happy summer daytime (as opposed to this wet dull winter night) I’d take “Summer of 69” by Brian Adams.
Was browsing earlier comments in this thread and saw this one. While I chose a song by a Kiwi band as favourite single piece of music, Nightswimming by R.E.M. would be in my top 5. Beautiful instrumentation, piano and strings joined late in the song by oboe, and multiple layers of meaning in the lyrics. And it's from what is easily my favourite album of all time: Automatic For The People.
ELO... Showdown is a great one of theirs.
Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here and Comfortably Numb.
Best played at lots of db thru a set of Cerwin Vega's.
Feel you heart pump!
I am not sure I can genuinely answer this question.
Probably A Kind of Blue by Miles Davis. A masterpiece in my opinion.
However ask me on a different day and I might give you a different answer!

People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.
Keep calm, and carry on posting.

Your Hand in Mine.
I was fortunate enough to meet an amazing person while at uni. We were many things to each other over the years, but eventually she became a close confidant. I shared wins and losses with her, and we racked up many miles zipping across the country in a Corolla sedan, just because we could. She was a huge part of my life, and I am sad to say she is no longer around. She passed away earlier this year, so young, after a prolonged period of difficulty that suddenly got away from her. It would be a day trip to the Coromandel, with takeaways at Tairua after going all the way around the Tuateawa loop, or maybe a trip to the Desert Road or skifield carpark. But now we can't do those things ever again.
I miss her. I have only recently come to terms with it and had to sort myself out and realise that I would need to make the effort to talk to others about that and the things I used to talk about with her, otherwise it would simply get to the point where I couldn't manage things either. I am fortunate to have other great friends who have been able to listen and take comfort in over these last few months.
One of our favourite listens was the Explosions in the Sky album The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place. It's a difficult listen for me now, but the final track is still something that I'll hold onto positively forever.

(*rubs eyes, must be dusty in here)
Sometimes I use big words I don't always fully understand in an effort to make myself sound more photosynthesis.

thank you both for reminding me of R.E.M., I had 3 of their albums, ATFTP, Out of Time and Green.
Haven't listened to them in a long time, now, after your reminder, I'm enjoying them anew.
Ngā mihinui ki a kōrua
I did skip a few pages but... really surprised to not see any mentions of the Beatles.
For me: Stairway to Heaven
Not sure how I missed this thread (started back in 2020, at the tail end of lockdown - that's probably why), but as others have said, it's nigh on impossible to pick just one track. I'm actually doing a thing on FB posting a song selection every day for 30(ish) days, and it's interesting to see what takes my mood and where my tastes lie.
I'm glad others have picked "Brothers in Arms" by Dire Straits, because that would be a contender. But if I had a gun to my head, and had to pick just one song from all of musical history, I would have to go with a track from Muse (still my favourite band of all time). "Hysteria" from Absolution is fantastic, especially with decent speakers turned up to 11, and it's got a great music video to go with it. The best way to listen to it is off the album with the bridge piece "Interlude" leading into the main track.

Just going to throw this out there for someone who has more time than me, it would be great if this thread turned into a public Spotify playlist - Geekzone - the Best of.
hint hint. 😉
It's been a couple of years and i have revisited this thread a number of times.
I still can't nail down one song.
Many pieces of music make my skin shiver or raise the hairs on my nape, but to simply pull one piece of music from the many millions that exist is quite simply impossible for me right now. It's actually overwhelming, thinking about it.
