Why can't they switch to NZD when you select "Deliver to New Zealand"?
Geektastic: I found it an unhelpful site. By the time I got to Checkout I had no idea whether the numbers wetter were Australian dollars or NZ dollars.
It is always AU dollars. They say so on the help page.

Someone explained before - if they do the conversion you are more likely to lose money.

Ordered Tuesday 1pm, arrived Thursday 2pm. Paid <$10 for priority delivery via DHL.
Day after delivery Amazon sent me a recall notice for the item delivered yesterday :)
Thankfully it's nothing I'll be worrying about, apparently the foam insert for the Oculus Quest 2 may cause skin irration and they are prepared to replace it
Was planning to buy an aftermarket one anyway, but good that they have such a process I guess

The issue has been explained already - foreign exchange fees.
I don't want Amazon to charge me in NZD because they (or whoever they use) is going to be clipping the ticket in this process and the rate they use is unlikely to be as good as my credit card rate.
Most online stores that do offer to charge in NZD have very poor rates, with the only exception I've ever found to this is United Airlines who charge the exact same price in NZD as they do in USD when converted at the mid market rate. This means it's always smart to pay in NZD on their site.
The advantage of this is also that IRD miss out of taking a greater cut. This isn't a big deal if goods are under $1000 now, but it is for items over $1000.
If you import goods into NZ customs charge you GST on the NZD amount of the transaction (incl freight). If you pay GST on the AUD/USD/UKP amount in the online store the 15% you pay can work out slightly better value than paying 15% of the NZD rate, especially when customs use their own rates for conversion.
Still trying to find something to use my $15 new prime customer voucher on... 🧐
Will probably grab an Anker wireless charger.

Surely that should read that you do want Amazon to charge you in AUD so that is then converted at your credit card rate

Just had a look at the phones. Found a Pixel 4a but when I clicked on it
"$602.75
This item cannot be shipped to your selected delivery location. Please choose a different delivery location."
So much for this store delivering to my NZ address.
Just had a look here again and they're now shipping Google Pixels to NZ but only the 5G model.

If only 5G and VoLTE worked on the pixels here on our NZ carriers!
Ramblings from a mysterious lady who's into tech. Warning I may often create zingers.

freitasm: The order that was supposed to be delivered tomorrow just showed up, a day earlier.
Who are they using for delivery?
From what I can see, most stuff is around 10% difference in price to NZ. There are some exceptions, but for me at least, 30% is the very least it needs to be for electronics and stuff that might fail, to forgo local warranty support and CGA. In many years of buying from Amazon, I'd say 99% of the time they have exceeded my expectations for customer service and support, often proving warranty outside of their usual terms, but it's still a risk.

The express delivery was via DHL.
