It's funny how the prospect of serious jail time, or worse for ritch folk jogs their memory and causes them to suddenly become very cooperative.

When the prosecution becomes your best friend you know it's time to find new friendships circles.

It’s been settled with an admission that Giuffre was a victim of abuse and a donation to her charity for the support of victims of abuse. It appears that there is no personal gain by Giuffre in the settlement although the charity may, or may not, be set up in a way that is beneficial to her.

Oh but I thought he wanted it all to go to trial! Like he ever had a hope of winning.

The document submitted to the court informing them of a "settlement in principle" says:

"The parties will file a stipulated dismissal upon Ms. Giuffre's receipt of the settlement (the sum of which is not being disclosed). Prince Andrew intends to make a substantial donation to make a substantial donation to Ms. Giuffre's charity in support of victim's rights."

Two separate sentences, potentially (and quite probably) referring to two separate things.

One thing you can be sure of, the "charitable donation" will be the only one that's ever publicly acknowledged.

Plus we'll never know whether the Queen's money has just bailed out an "alleged" sex offender or how much was potentially paid.

Everything will now be safely swept under the carpet, never to be mentioned again.

Hopefully a civilised end to a sordid episode.

His name (and by association, all of the British Royals) will be forever tarnished.

If the allegations are true (which we'll likely never know for sure), I trust this ends that kind of behaviour from an outdated (and quite frankly immoral) institution.

Meanwhile in NZ Sir John Key & his son Max are doing a property development with the brothel keeping Chow brothers. Money has no morals.

Someone much more senior probably re-oriented his thinking.

I know, right? I almost laughed out loud when I heard him say that he was "determined" to go to court in order to "clear his name" - something that was never, ever going to happen. At least he's avoided making an even bigger fool of himself now.

He's also released a statement: https://www.nzherald.co.nz/lifestyle/prince-andrew-makes-bombshell-statement-after-settling-sex-abuse-case/ATZNPB5WIRX5ISF3TZVRC2QUOA/

He’s a sleazeball sure but the British Royals aren’t exactly strangers to controversy. Auntie hung out with all sorts of … Bohemian … lifestyle people. Nazi-sympathising great uncle abdicated so he could marry a divorced American. And you can keep going back: you might remember Henry VIII and his slight streak of misogyny.

"Dear Andrew,

Unless you want to spend the rest of your life confined to an ‘off-grid’ gillie's cottage out the back of Balmoral, you will make this problem go away before it spoils poor dear Mama's Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

Yrs sincerely,

Charles"

Yeah but all of the previous stuff was excusable as a "different times" cliche.

This one goes beyond making excuses for the behaviour...

Probably more like:

'Andrew Albert Christian Edward, settle this thing at once or you're going to your room without a view.

Your mother'

They are excusable now as "different times". But even then they weren't all that excusable. The Nazi-sympathising was very dimly viewed at the time, and the marrying a divorcee was why he had to abdicate. I'm sure Henry got a bit more leeway but his predilection for offing people's heads probably had more to do with it than people actually thinking it was OK.
