elpenguino:Whatever happened to these guys ? They were everywhere.
Just a catchup on the history of 'Trust Bank'. Originally in NZ there were 'trading' and 'savings' banks. Trading banks had cheque accounts and were privately-owned (dominated by Oz-owned parents except for the government-owned BNZ). Savings banks were generally community-owned and only offered savings accounts - they operated school-savings campaigns aimed at kids-accounts. The Post Office (government-owned) also offered savings accounts with schools savings accounts. Databank was originally a trading bank co-operative, savings banks operated through a BNZ account to distribute transactions to their account holders. The first 2 digits of trading banks accounts were 01 (ANZ) to 06 (National Bank).
Trading banks since then have consolidated into todays banks - the ANZ (was ANZ, Post Office Savings Bank, National Bank) BNZ, Westpac (was Bank of New South Wales, Commercial Bank of Australia. Savings banks have gone through a multitude of changes best covered by this article:

I believe you forgot the "WestpacTrust" phase, and the Auckland Savings Bank's acquisition by the Commonwealth Bank of Australia. I believe the Taranaki Savings Bank is the only one of the originals left.

No - that was covered in the article I cited. ASB did indeed pull out of Trustbank after first joining it. TSB never joined Trustbank. Westpac acquired Trustbank to form WestpacTrust in 1996, and the name changed back to Westpac in 2002.
