Gorilla Burger in Wellington is pretty good. And the already mentioned Burger Liquor.
I haven't been in Wellington for a while but I regret not going here last time I was.
Princess Wharf one is still open I believe.
Not sure what the fanfare has to do with anything, either it makes money, or it doesn't.
Plenty of Hospo places have sunk recently, many with long storied histories.

I tried Wahlburger in Queenstown a couple of months ago

And now it's gone. 18 months isn't very long given all the hoopla around its opening.
The article mentions three eateries in the same building have closed recently. This may be a sign of our economy struggling but could also just show there is an oversupply of eateries in the area.

It was kinda a weird spot to put it in Queenstown, while close to town its not where I would think to go for food.

Agreed I'd have opened in Wellington or Christchurch before QT.
I'd think putting one in Qtn would be a good move, but its just not where tourist mingle as such. Its the path between town and the gondola. Most people would eat in town then go up the gondola, or eat up the top.

Yup - it's an odd spot for a burger joint - especially as Fergburger is just down the hill, so you'd likely join the queue there as a tourist before finding Wahlburger.

Should the topic be renamed to closing in NZ?
The QT branch is closing, the Auckland Branch is still open as I understand it.
Will be interesting to see if they carry on with their plans to open in Tauranga.

Like Queenstown, that would depend on the location.

It didn't even have a street frontage, it was down an albeit swanky "laneway" to Kingpin (a bowling entertainment place) . Unless you knew it was there you are likely to walk right past it on the way to or from the Gondola ...
It needed to be somewhere downtown....
Yeah tried the Queenstown one just over a year ago when we went there for a short holiday (we'd both never been before) and saw it on the walk up to the Gondola/Luge in the morning, so decided to have dinner there when we came back down at the end of the day. Was a bit of a weird out of the way sort of spot and we wouldn't have walked up that hill if we weren't doing the gondola. It would have been much busier in the more central part of town.

How was it?
I went to Queenstown one March 24, Was bad.
My beef patties were burnt, not just charred, fully burnt and tasted it too. Loved the ordering on app/site but deception, had pictures of a 600ml fizz, but then was delivered a small glass of fizz (so then overpriced). Inconsistency on pricing, me and the friend ordered 2 different flavours of fries, his were a decent amount cheaper, but then bigger than mine.
I think he got a chicken burger off memory? Nothing wow or special, very low average burger. My beef one even without the burnt was just eh, nothing wow.
Service was fine, but was like 3pm, and only one other table there, and it still seemed to take quite a long long time, so we just sat and waited and waited and waited.
Had zero intention of going back, Reburger is so much better and cheaper. Not surprised it closed down, it seemed to get a lot of low reviews, the occasional good one but not many.
If you have to run heating in winter, you don’t own enough computers.
