Blah, so over this now! Just been advised Pak n Save's Hornby and Moorhouse staying open until normal closing hours, St Martins New World also staying opening. Unsure on Countdown's, although I know most (if not all) Supervalue's are closed. Big problems at Foodstuffs Warehouses in Hornby/Papanui though so looks like no deliveries for a while.

I have got to say a big up's to Vodafone, we've been reliant on the network for work communications and its worked almost flawlessly!

I'm choosing the believe that this aftershock is scaremongering... Fingers Crossed!

How's the rest of the country today?

Well Talkiet can you cite evidence for what you're suggesting as well?! As in hard facts, where it was proven that CD/Police intentionally lied for whatever reason.

There had been series of aftershocks (21 so far) that is above scale 4. A big one is expected in the next 24-48 hrs, and could be more aftershocks for the rest of th week (tiny tiny one that you can barely feel them)

old3eyes: I just hope the the bureaucrats in Christchurch don't decide that all old buildings in CHCH should be be demolished as they may be an earthquake rink just as the clowns in Wellington did in the 1970s. Demolished some real nice old building and replaced then with modern crap..

That wasn't justy for earthquake reasons, it was also due to greedy developers building a whole lot of spec buildings, and no protection on any of the old buildings. There will be covernants on the important buildings, and all old buildings can be strengthened with a steel or reinforced concrete structure.

Although we all love to moan about telcos, it has to be said that they have performed well in this crisis in terms of the resilience of their networks and their communication with their customers.

Did anyone just feel that aftershock? At about 16:50. Felt pretty significant in Dunedin.

I missed it in Wellington, but the Earthquake drums went mental, seems the Invercargill picked up the most of that one

(update every 30 minutes, so in 22 minutes they'll be gone off the site)

Hundreds of mini shocks on the Canterbury Drum too

Curfew is in-placed by NZ Police from 7pm to 7am. Please avoid going into CBD if you have not reason to be there at all, otherwise you may be arrested. Don't go create more problem or difficulty where-when the NZ Police resources can be used better elsewhere with clearing the debris or ensuring the buildings are cleared and safe.

Hey all,

Wow what a morning, the cat woke me up before the quake. Our house has not suffered any damage and neither the school that my wife works at.

Canterbury University has closed until 13th of September. This has given me an extra week off uni. So I would like to make myself available to any electrical contractors out there who are in need of extra skilled labor.

I am a registered electrician with industrial and commercial experience. If any companies out there require extra workers I would love to help out and get our city cleaned up!

So if you guys know of anyone please pass on my details, I will be ringing around companies. Hope everyone is safe and has somewhere to go!

Cheers

@mattRSK Your skill may be very useful for me in the very short near future... we're renovating our place and looking to add few more power points in a few rooms.
