That's unhelpful.
I am not an expert on types who go around committing wanton acts of vandalism, but I would speculate that they can be divided into two categories. The first is the sleaze with attitude, resentful, cowardly, easily triggered, who takes offense at something it imagines you have done or been part of in some way.
The second is the wilted willy, someone so impotent and powerless that it can only leave a mark by breaking something. This is the type that goes around lighting buildings on fire.

Anything from someone who felt you cut them off in traffic to some irate dealership customer from next door. Mistaken vehicle etc. People that do this stuff are not known for clarity of thought.
A post on the local Facebook community page has yielded anecdotal evidence that a few cars in that vicinity have been damaged in the last few days. So maybe I'm not special after all.
I've let the other dealer down the road know as they have techs and sales people parking in the street too. If someone has a bee in their bonnet about that then they might end up copping it as well.

Often people are just angry at themselves for bad choices they have made, and lashing out at society around them is their coping mechanism. There's no point in trying to rationalise actions that are inherently irrational.
OK, the worst year of my life so far.
There are still 18 days for it to get worse.
Today has potential.
Had to call a tradie in to fix an issue and all he has done is make things 10 times worse.

Is there anything anyone here can do to help out? There are a lot of people here with tradie know-how.

When times are tough, it's helpful to count your blessings. We all have them, and without them, things would be worse.
Most of the posters in this thread are just like chimpanzees on MDMA, full of feelings of bonhomie, joy, and optimism. Fred99 8/4/21

If you responded to 100 people who said that, I bet 100 would say it didn't make them feel one iota 'better' or find it in the least bit 'helpful'. Whether you intended it to be or not, it sounded glib and dismissive. There are a lot of people really really hurting/struggling right now.
The correct response would be 'hey, sorry to hear it'.

It probably did - and I am sorry you're having a tough year. We all need to look after each other.

Thanks, it's all good.
Oh, and for Plato's sake don't go anywhere near the Wikipedia discussion, take your advice from a psychology site or blog.
neb: As a general comment, for people who need advice on how to deal with situations like this, and most of us do since talking to someone in distress is a tough thing to deal with, google "Socratic questioning". I'm afraid that would be all Greek to me.
