Applied 28 Aug 2021, called them up last Friday to touch base. Was informed that I should keep a hawk eye with my email as I should be receiving an email from a CO in the next 6 weeks but call them again after that if there's nothing 😅

You're actually quite fortunate they'll even talk to you - in Australia, the department responds with "we are still within the 22 month processing timeline, we will not provide you further information". (Though in my case the reason is how long it takes the New Zealand government to respond with a one word "Yes" or "No" to an email - apparently that takes several weeks).

@Divhon88 have you received any updates ?

My partner had her citizenship ceremony here in Hamilton on the 5th Sept (14 months) 2 days later applied for passport and got the email notification this afternoon to say it was in the mail. 6 working days. Quite impressive

Been 13 months and no CO yet! same answers everytime I call :(

Anyone got lucky recently from the abandoned backlog ( July Aug Sep 21 )

I applied at the end of July 2021 and was assigned an officer (received "confirm your details email") on the 3rd of Sep. Waiting ...

P.S. according to their website "The oldest applications now being assessed were submitted in August 2021." Now I am wondering, how does that suppose to work if some people from Jul do not have a decision yet?

Hi any update on your application?

@Jayf still nothing very frustarting now and highly disappointed as I'm flying out January 2023. My current foreign passport expired Dec 2020 since I'm not going anywhere and knowing I'll have a NZ one between Aug-Dec 2021 I didn't renew it. For insurance I just renewed my foreign passport for $4++ yesterday. Such a waste of money that could have been better spent elsewhere just because DIA can't properly do their job on time.

Sorry to hear that, I know how it feels, being in the same situation myself.

P.S. when you call them what do they tell you. On their website they have this one “The oldest applications now being assessed were submitted in August 2021.” so it’s clearly not true. Maybe try to point them into this one (I am planning to do the same)

Hi guys, just have a question. Does anyone have experience contacting the Citizenship Ceremony team and bringing the ceremony forward? For example, if you can attend the ceremony in a different city or so?

Not sure about bringing it forward, but you can postpone if you can't attend the one scheduled for you. My BIL family just did that.

@Sf1nks @Divhon88  They have just increased the time to allocate to CO to 14 months, the third increase in the last  4 months. Getting ridiculous and no one is held accountable for this mess. they keep talking about training new staff for the past 18 months , wondering what kind of training is this ? The level of uncertainty we are living is very stressful and it seems no one cares

FFS, 5 days away from me reaching the 13 months time to allocate a CO. They are not dumb though, they knew I would start complaining next week and I'm probably not alone.

Funny and pathetic how they keep adjusting timeframes based on poor performance instead of improving performance to meet a fixed and properly planned timeframes!! wonering who is in charge of all this

The problem here is they actually now can point you to new timeframes and say: “be patient, now it takes 14 months”.

My officer was assigned 13 months and 2 weeks from the date I applied.

@Jayf prime example why the gov't leaders has low score in the latest boardroom CEO Survey.

@Sf1nks precisely my point why I mentioned they are not dumb, by extending their timeframes that would eliminate my turn to complain that I have reached the 13 months old timeframe, which I'm sure I'm not alone.

I believe it’s actually a staff shortage which is the root cause of this. I don’t believe any training will help here much, but that’s my opinion. It’s very hard to find someone who can actually listen to you. The answers are the same all the time and even though FYI.org.nz there are a lot of controversial replies. The ombudsman path is also "no go" as the ombudsman allocation takes a lot of time.

P.S. On a positive note. Once you are assigned an officer the process is pretty straightforward. The “ceremony team” is also very helpful and replies quickly.
