They have.

And they don't mention in their social media posts and Stuff "article" asking for donations that they have received over $6million to date in government assistance

I'm not sure what your axe to grind is but it's very strange. A number of businesses and individuals are in dire straights due to the shut down. I'm sure the journalists and and support staff who will lose their jobs will be heartened by a business not asking it's customers for support.

Anyway this is way off topic and going round in circles. Enjoy your annoyance.

@Handle9

I have been doing voluntary work for various charities most of my working life and worked in social services so I am very invested in this. It is obscene to see a multi billion multinational trying tear jerk methods to gather donations from the public and double dip the same public by also taking wage subsidy. There are a multitude of community support organisations struggling to cope with the impact of the pandemic and their resources are running out and the donations are harder to get as those that used to donate are those now in need of help.

Stuff are being dishonest and were considering pay walling long before the pandemic. They are now trying start pay walling by disguising it as donations.

Your lack of comprehension for what is happening, vs what you *think* is happening, is causing your outrage. There is no paywall. Perhaps before you carry on any more, you could do some actual investigation to determine what is *actually* happening.

You are wrong and thanks for the insult.

I know it is a result of "no planes are flying" but .. damnit, I want to order some stuff from Japan and Hong Kong before it goes out of stock and I can't because there is no air mail postal service.

In fairness to MikeB4, I can see some justification for his views. Whilst I don't think there's any evidence that Stuff is using this as any kind of soft launch of a paywall, his underlying point it that the parent of Stuff remains a well-capitalised company which can essentially go and ask their shareholders to take a haircut rather than doing any cap in hand to Stuff readers. It's not an unreasonable position, even if the impact of COVID-19 can't be forseen.

The media has had sustainability issues for a long time now and their revenue model (i.e. massive reliance on online advertising revenue against the backdrop of diminishing subscription sales) has long been failing. Perhaps there's an unspoken concern on MikeB4's part over entities using the COVID-19 crisis to emotively appeal to people to assist them in getting of plights that are their own making or at least those that they haven't done enough to dig them out of. If that's so, again I don't think that's an unreasonable view.

I was thinking the other day, that I feel NZH has got mostly worse since it went Paywall. The opposite of what was promised. I subscribed for access to sports writers and a few other bits and pieces.

You aren't the only one. The Herald really should be renamed the NewstalkZB Herald or Fox News New Zealand. Their obvious right wing political slants and relentless attack on the government in the opinion pages is tiresome. I've just received three notifications regarding Grant Robertson's impending appearance before Parliament's Response Committee. These notifications come from Fox News NZ, Stuff and RNZ respectively. Can anyone guess which one was by FNNZ?

Watch Live: Epidemic Response Committee to question ministers over Covid-19 lockdown extension;

Live: Watch as MPs challenge finance and business ministers over lockdown's impact on trade and jobs; and

Watch live from 10am: Finance Minister to be grilled by Epidemic Response Committee

Two of those notifications are detailed and factual. One is just editorialising.

I took Friday off work, partially to get a long weekend but also to avoid a 2-hour snorefest. However, they've now moved the meeting to Thursday :(

Take a selfie, stick it to some cardboard, put the selfie in front of the cam, and do some actual snoring!

Amateur hour! Simply say your webcam is not working, record a series of grunts, no commital acknowledgements, and other noncontributory comments, and have them play randomly throughout the call...

I just realised that TV game show sets that are mostly blue really annoy me. I don't know why.

Last night my wife drop our Harmony Ultimate remote. Never mind, luckily there was a nice iPhone 8 to break its fall!

One iPhone with a busted screen and an unresponsive remote handset.

Not impressed

Patched gang members complaining about being harassed by police. If you're in a gang you should just expect it - I really have no sympathy even if they say they're going to follow you to the supermarket, let them. If you're telling the truth you have no problem.
