Geektastic: I never knew beaches had a “capacity”.

Long Bay. The road/car park arrangement and access is nuts on a medium day. At full you will have people on the way in waiting an age to turn around and go home. It makes sense to direct traffic away from it compared to dealing with the consequences.

I thought that was more or less self policing.  When you can't get a park close enough ("close enough" varies from person to person), then you go somewhere else.

Except in Wellington where, if a legitimate car park is not available, people just abandon their car wherever they like regardless of the obstruction it might cause.

Here in Christchurch, if a legitimate car park is available, people just abandon their car wherever they like regardless of the obstruction it might cause.

Epic has been doing a free game every day of the holidays. Today is the best game of the lot (being xmas day in the US) and accidentally they gave away the wrong edition and then corrected it. People are going NUTS. Such over entitled nut cases.

It's still a great game they didn't have to pay for and all people are doing is throwing shade (like serious shade).

Some days I despair for humanity. I can't get over how ungrateful people are.

I get where you're coming from 100%.

A YouTuber I follow hadn't posted anything for a very long time. I figured he was ill as it was something he'd alluded to in one video before disappearing off the radar. About a month ago he reappeared, wearing a skull wrap, looking thinner than he used to be, and explaining what had been going on his life - which was an incurable condition. Then he brought up the subject of people sending him abusive messages for not putting out any content for a while etc. He pointed out that the [lack of] content they were complaining about is free and takes a considerable amount of time to produce etc. He ended up by flipping the bird and saying this is for all you who have done this. There's an unbelievable amount of entitlement out there.

Thats the problem when you teach kids they have "rights", but forget to tell them they are balanced by "responsibilities"

All they need to understand their rights end where mine begin, and they do NOT and NEVER will have more rights than anyone else .

Nope. People will just keep piling in until something breaks, in its most dangerous form a crowd collapse or crush. This is why stadiums both limit attendance and have a pile of physical security measures in place to try and address this.

Not really the case with a beach though. It’s an open sandy place.

Imo the issue with Long Bay is mostly parking and emergency services access. My recollection is occasional fights and alcohol related disorder to sort out, older people having random heart attacks, all that sort of thing. More accurately it's Long Bay Regional Park.

@Geektastic that probably would have been better in the dumbest headlines thread

It looks like police said the regional park was closed due to capacity, not the beach. You haven't indicated where your quote is from, but presumably whatever media it was from changed it to beach instead of park. From what others have posted above it probably means the carpark was full, so no more traffic could get in.

Unless it's a completely packed stoney Brighton beach.

been to long bay before? its an utter PITA to get in and out of when busy and can full up pretty easily, then people start parking where ever they feel like and it hampers access.

so while it is an open sandy place its the surrounding infrastructure that cant handle it.

just like if i were to invite 10,000 people to your property for a concert i bet it would get out of hand pretty fast.
