After one episode... who knows.

He made a movie, and they still let him make a series. Anything is possible.
I personally find him as funny in person as in his 'toons, so I'm hoping there is more to come.

He might be funny, but the show is serious lacking any funny... especially comic timing. There was some jokes he set up, just to have them go flat with the punchline, either rushed, or drawn out.

Don't get me wrong, "Ted" was funny, and "Family Guy" and all his animated shows are absolute crap, so I'm not a fanboi at all, but this thing is like galaxy quest where every character was played badly by tim allen.

I didn't find it very funny but the centring of the alien on the view screen is amusing. I'll watch a couple, see how it goes. The sets and so on look really good.

Pumpedd:

Another good one is Mr Mercedes. Its a Stephen King physch type thriller....a bit slow for first few episodes but really enjoying it now.

Where did you find this? I'd like to watch having read the book, but not sure if anywhere is shoeing it in NZ.

^If you can't find anywhere showing it in NZ you can safely assume the source of it can't be talked about on GZ ;)

I'm enjoying Mr Mercedes too.  Brendan Gleeson's character is almost identical to how my Dad was (RIP).  Typical funny agro Irishman.  Also just started watching Broad City.  So funny, have binged almost 2 seasons since yesterday.

The Orville is a drama with a bit of humour.  It's not supposed to be a straight up comedy.  It's just the trailer made it seem that way so people's expectations going in were wrong for the type of show it is.  They're going for a straight up Star Trek type sci-fi drama, but with some contemporary humour mixed in.

Just finished watching the excellent comedy Green Wing.

My wife was in fits of laughter every time we watched it. Can't believe they only made two series.

Star Trek Discovery, on Netflix. Not bad but didn't like that science officer guy.

The Night Of - series 1 - 9/10 Absolutely superb, right up there with Broadchurch. Strong characters really well acted, excellent story line and great dialogue.

It's a remake of a UK series from 2008 called Criminal Justice. I'm getting hold of that now so it will be interesting to compare the 2 versions.

Ken Burns The War on nz Netflix. 8/10

I really like this film makers slow steady way of telling stories. The polar opposite Of The shouty flashy "documentaries" on sky.

The ones on American civil war and Prohibition are also very good.

His series on Vietnam was launched in PBS last week with good reviews in NY Times. Will be interesting to see if launches here.

Bloody gorgeous cinematography and CGI eh.  Very promising indeed.  Only saw episode 1 las night, watching 2 tonight.

Not so sure about the Klingon reimagining yet... their ships were iconic.  New ones will need to grow on me.

The reimagined Klingons remind a bit of the character (Jerry) played by Louis Gossett Jr. in Enemy Mine!
