The form and guidance don't have any advice for shared custody arrangements - my partners kids are exactly 50-50 in two houses. They will have an individual form done at their mum's but I think I will put them as "usually resident" in our house too - not sure what you're meant to do. I would have thought its pretty common living situation, which doesn't seem to be well explained.

God help you if you get selected for the business surveys, which involve basically collating and giving them your accounts monthly.

I have had to do their business surveys and they are a PITA. Ends up costing me quite a bit in terms of time I have to spend on it. Also have to have my accounts done before hand by the accountant, as often my accounts haven't been done in time. However I haven't had it do it for the last few years which is good.

Thanks. Where did you see that? Do I put them as usually resident but absent from our house too?
They will definitely have an individual form done only once.

In the guide "5 Which address do I give?" It is the last bullet point. There's no help for the Dwelling form, I'd either leave them out or ring the helpline.

Is it just me or are they saying 210,000 people can't comprehend it is not yet March 5?

Shouldn't the article say to calm down and wait to DOS the census website on March 5?

There's no other way to put this: They are still being delivered.

I believe they have to formally be delivered no later than mid day on March 5th, so given we are still in February, this should be considered normal.

JimmyH: I put Caledonian for my ethnicity last time so, depending on the IQ of the person keying the form I an either Scottish, European or a native of New Caledonia - who knows? A number of friends (all white) put Pacific Islander, on the grounds that NZ is an island in the Pacific, and that's where they were born.

I like the suggestion of ticking "other" and writing "New Zealander" - that's probably what I will do this time.

Huh? Ethnicity has nothing to do with nationality.

Stats is one of the departments that I have a lot of time for. I've used their data in location based services with Business Intelligence and gone to many of the seminars that the department holds each year explaining what data they have, how they use it and how they go to great pains to ensure that data about individuals is protected. For example if you were a Samoan family with 2 children living in Torbay, Auckland and had a family household income of $200,000, the data would be fudged in such a way that if you were an exception the rule, you would not show in demographics searches. effectively even at mesh block level, if you were the only one with those stats, you would not appear.
The thing that amazes me the most about Census data is how few business people actually use it. It is a goldmine for businesses of all sorts and the vast majority of information is available free to anyone. I can't wait for the results to start coming out at the end of the year, or sooner given that we can now do it on-line.

I haven't completed the census yet i lost the forms were suppose to fill out including the online one. Waiting on the census person to call back, this time i might just do it all online straight away.

The thing that amazes me the most about Census data is how few business people actually use it. I can't wait for the results to start coming out at the end of the year, or sooner given that we can now do it on-line.

Well, not free; paid for by taxpayers in money, time and information forced from them through the threat of court action.

I can afford the fine to not be releasing my private data to the government so will continue to keep myself to myself.

I think the fact we are forced to do it is a bit wrong. Sure all the data is protected by laws and anyone who comes in contact with the information signs some piece of paper that says they need to keep quiet. All of that does not stop some hacker in his mothers basement ripping all the info off some "secure server" somewhere, all under the governments nose.

After all the government spying and lies that have been going around as well as the whole Work and Income IT disaster, I'm not so sure I should touch these forms with a barge pole.

Well, census day is here and unfortunately you can't change your answers if you've already done your forms online (I did mine a couple of weeks ago and selected that I'd drive to work when I actually ended up walking). Of course, one number doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things (and I normally drive!)
