Have just ditched Sky so it would be a welcome replacement unit. Wouldn't want those tv input sockets to feel unwanted!

Sounds like a great little unit, with Android to boot!

This would be a sweet unit to replace... Nothing! I currently have nothing like this in my home setup. I would love to add it to my system. The review makes it sound pretty good and versatile.

Cheers

cleggy2: Hi. This would replace mysky as I am sick to death of paying to record mainly free to air programs.

Why are all your components mounted vertically?

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

This would be great for our bedroom with the ability to watch movies on the htpc as well - a great feature.
Currently have a dm500 that doesn't really like interacting with the network (cheap clone I think), so this would be very useful. Admittedly, we do mostly watch dvb-t broadcasts, but this would be useful for looking at the other signals we can receive.

Technically, not the specific device in my set-up, but it's just the same.

The DTVS Smart1 Satellite Receiver would sit perfectly at the end of my cable.

This would be a really nice upgrade from a crappy Dish TV s7070 that tries to update itself at 4pm instead of 4am and all I need to do to update it is install an com port and use a null modem cable and terminal

Will be complementing my freeview hd, by utilising the freeview plus its ability to do so much more

My Setup

With my son working at a major retailer and talking quite seriously of getting a 60" for hte lounge and taking the current 42" into his bed room I'd like to up the intelligence level of the PVR we currently run. I'd like to let him have the DishTV Satbox S7090PVR and install this little beauty in it's place.

While the S7090PVR is a relatively topspec DishTVR PCR it does have a couple of annoyances.

Firstly while there is a USB connector it cannot seem to be used for anything more than firmware uploads. I'd like to be able to move some stuff off the internal drive to free up space. I also have it plugged into my LAN but there is limited scope and features that take advantage of access to the internet.

There is also the occasional complete loss of scheduled programmes when the unit is rebooted. And I discovered recently there is only about 16 slots for scheduled recording.

I too was looking at a Raspberry Pi as a media centre but I managed to fry it somehow. Looked really good while it lasted!

We moved about 18 months ago and have had no television setup since. We had MySky but that got way too expensive for what we actually watched. At our current location it's only satellite and I couldn't find a box good enough to spend the dosh on, I looked for months on end and finally gave up.

This would be awesome as I would finally set the TV up and actually watch some of the media I do have and stop abusing the laptop so much.

Ive got an original Zinwell freeview box that I can replace - I think its the 620HD. Apparently a firmware upgrade allowed you to convert it into a limited PVR, but I never tried that.

EDIT I grabbed a foto off the interweb - yes it IS a  620 !

I'm very please to win the receiver to replace my old cheap satellite receiver. It doesn't have video componet terminals, and only delivers low images resolution.

The new receiver will improve the image output quality and even intall apps on it to have much more fun than the normal one. I'm looking forward to have it. Thanks

hmm, guess on a technicality I can't enter? -- it will be replacing...the air that occupies the space where my TV used to be before Christchurch went digital, and the space a DVR would go if I ever get with the times, oh, or the Freeview device I don't yet have, I guess :P
