Mistake a defensive tack, lost time, then a second extra tack, again ETNZ beaten for sailing skill

Gutted, Oracle deserve credit, they have a fast boat, and are sailing it smarter and better than ETNZ.

Thanks ETNZ, it was a great ride while it lasted - hopefully at some point further down the track, another challenge can be funded.

Kopkiwi: Bahahaha losers. Win the start, first to the top mark. Still lose. This choke will never be topped. Ever.

<YAWN!>

Can we please drop this boring habit of labelling our sportsmen as chokers? Oracle have found some extra speed in their boat, and they are now sailing it very well. Lets give credit where credit is due, rather than resort to the predictable catch cry of "Chokers!".

See if we still sailed well and still lost I wouldn't call it a choke, but that isn't the case, we've been put under pressure and Baker has made error after error. That's choking under pressure. The All Blacks lose to a fired up French team that plays brutal Rugby, the All Blacks don't actually play badly, but it's labeled a choke? Can't have one and not the other. This IS a choke in every definition of the word.

I hate the term, but it's hard to consider anything else. Dean Barker has capitulated. There is no reason for that last tack and the mind boggling errors we have made. Inexplicable choices...

maybe there's some match fixing???

and well there was one point in the race where ETNZ were about even with OUSA and if we kept on going we would of had right of way and forced Oracle to slow down to either tack or go behind us. but nope we tack instead and then they get the advantage. Making decisions like that is either choking or match fixing.

I agree. Its a great pity that despite tomorrow will be the race for the Cup, my desire to watch it is very much muted

I still stand by my comments that our boat is good enough easily, we make ground when disadvantaged by a poor start, but Oracle has the same great boat that we do but more skill sailing it.

Yah I can't understand how we can consistently make 200-500M deficits when trailing but can't hold a 200M lead let alone make the same gains.

DB looks suicidal.

Thats it in one, we were leading and controlling. Not far ahead to take an early tack that will drop speed, and Oracle didnt tack, retained the speed, rolled over us. Why did we do that when we have repeatedly raced the course faster from behind in many legs, so now we are in front surely we will retain the lead. Why oh why.

Wonder who will captain the next Cup, it will not be Barker as he raced a faster boat early and won, now he races an even boat and loses 9 in a row.

only a kiwi team can snatch a defeat from the jaws of victory, a true "warriors effort" indeed.

Dont get me wrong, I hope they do win, but its not looking good

Biggest choke in world sport history?

Still hope they win it though! Haha how good would that be, let them catch up 8-8 then win it :)

No it's not.  If we didn't tack and there had been a split, that would have made it a lottery, with the odds well in OR's favour, as they would have come back at us on starboard.
In those conditions OR were faster - and outsailed us.

The next race may be the last we ever see with a NZ flagged boat in the AC.
JK made it clear that Govt funding is dependent on an ETNZ win.  LE will be loving the win so much - and the AC72 concept, that there's little chance of a change to a less expensive regatta - though the world pool of multi-billionaires prepared to throw half a billion of so is small, and I doubt what they're seeing now will help rattle extra loose change out their pockets.
And with the lack of coverage overseas, it's hard to imagine that sponsors like Camper will have sold enough shoes to justify having their name on a boat again.

They also have the postponement day which I think wouldn't be the worst Idea in the world to stop Oracles Momentum
