For a home network, Energy Efficiency, clean looks and quiet operation are key considerations. In my case these features could make this a nice addition to my home theatre setup.
Would be soo much better than the NAS HP box I have in house at the moment. Small, quite, quick. what else could be better. XBMC, NAS and VM server. Would replace all of it no worries.
I would probably give this to my friend if I won it (it would make a good replacement for my old media server, but it would be of far more use to my friend's business than it would be to me). This would be the perfect replacement for his old HP microserver running Windows Home Server. One of the great features of Server 2012 Essentials is deduplicated network client backups, and a powerful yet easy to use backup system for the server itself.
I noticed the specs say the SATA drives are non-hotswap. Is it configured in RAID mode instead of AHCI mode by default? If we could get a few spare drive cages, it would be nice to use 3.5" SATA drives for backups instead of using 2.5" USB drives or messing around with external power packs for 3.5" USB drives.
The Size and specs make this a perfect replacement for my Old old server and not so old NAS. It would be used as media hub for all the digital media we have and consume at home. The ilo makes management easy and the fact it can be flexable with ESXi makes it the perfect device for the home / home office
Small and unobtrusive size is ideal for a small home business, as well as doubling as a home media server. The out-of-box server set up and deployment is very appealing.
