Here's hoping the reincarnation of Top Gear (aka JC & fellow thugs) ends up in the hands of someone like Netflix where they can make a global show for a global audience

Whether BBC was right or wrong in it's actions (I love the show, i love JC's style, but categorically he was wrong and some form of action 'needed' to be taken), i imagine a new series with new presenters will not survive a few shows and a bunch of 'twats' will be kicking themselves for letting it happen as it did

JC and gang probably aren't too upset right now, they will survive and survive quite nicely, for the hoards of execs that need to keep channel ratings up or the numerous TG support crew, their future is most uncertain right now, they are the ones that will be sacrificed over this 'fracas'

BBC too PC? I don''t follow that at all. The previous, many infractions weren't just racist, he ran down disabled people as well. He is just abusive. Is he really like that in reali life? Probably not, he is loud and obtuse as that's his TV qualification. The BBC have put up with a great number of nasty infractions, so in effect, the BBC are not very PC at all, in fact rthe opposite, but it's now gone over the line. Punching a guy cos of an issue with a steak? Amazing

Differing opinions is all. There are plenty of people who offend me greatly, make my blood boil in fact (mainly dopey left wing bloggers, extreme right wing US churches and politicians) and guess what, I don't watch them, listen to them or read about them if I can avoid it at all. Therefore I don't complain to their editor, broadcaster, or publisher about them either, because that's their opinion. Everyone has the right to complain too however and some people use that right, often. That's where we differ.

In case you missed it, I am agreeing with you about the physical violence thing. It's unacceptable. I just believe it would have been dealt with differently if it was his first offence.

Edit: Oh, and when you said a motoring journalist ran down disabled people... I smiled for the irony. Sorry, I'm a bad person.

LOL, ran down, pun NOT intended. Made my day!

Yes , first offence no doubt it would make the news, apology, move on. I guess its his ongoing , blatant, in your face abuses of basically everything. Thats his label, but out there fun and loudness doesn't need to offend so many people, now it is hitting people over a steak.

Offence, yes I see your point, but he is in the public eye, if you watch the show and get offended or read about it, thats not cool, and in some cases it's not legal. IMO

There is the irony. If the crew etc are affected by this "fracas" that's appearing to marginalise the fracas, its wasnt that bad, etc. It was bad, it was over nothing, it was one of many. That it affects others doesnt make it unfair, its all due to one person, not everyone ganging up on JC.

From here, what happens? TG with RH and JM and a newbie? They don;t seem to want to. A refreshed TG that will take a year to be accepted if it's any good.
TG will work in the rest of the world so BBC ok-ish with that, which shows it doesnt need these three people , we are just used to them. Maybe JC will grovel back and start over, a new man?

And I personally am providing 2 of the eyeballs that generate those ratings.

I watched TG because I enjoyed it, I liked how "over the top" they tried to take things.

I'm not sure that I'd watch something with new presenters.

Most likely scenario is ITV or Sky pay JC, JM and RH a small fortune to come work for them, create a new show or reinvent an existing one, fanbase goes with them, and Top Gear as we know it dies a horrible death.

Yep, it used to be a car show, with a comedy and satirical edge, but all of those cool factors have got so exaggerated, I feel its lost its way. The last few times i accidentally watched it, I found it boring at time, as each was repeat of the other, but thats just me

Going by US Top Gear which I cannot stand, they would need to change the formula dramatically to make it an entirely new TG show for the new hosts. US TG just doesn't work 'cos you have people trying to replicate the exact same format of the UK version with the same sections (star in a reasonably priced car), same silly ideas (caravan racing for eg) and it fails very badly imo 'cos it's already been done, and usually with more humour.

If they took that into account I'd still watch a new TG if it came to my screen 'cos I like automotive review shows. I used to enjoy 5th Gear when that was shown here very intermittently. It wasn't nearly as entertaining as TG but I enjoy the subject matter.

Pity that Andy Wilman and Jeremy Clarkson sold the rights to TG a while back.

Maybe Clarkson, Hammond and May can get a network to give them a show called 'Not the last of the summer wine'

Maybe I should give 5th Gear another shot.  Something about Tiff though, rubs me the wrong way.

Your literal interpretation of his comment makes it seem as if you've run out of an argument.  I spent my most of my primary school life running to the teacher after being bullied.  It continued through highschool until I actually punched the lights out of said bully.  He very nearly lost his vision in one eye, but needless to say I was never troubled again.  A year later, we ended up friends.

Similar bullying behavior happened at an old place of work, I slapped the bully (someone twice my age) across the face quite hard with a cereal box.  It resulted in him on the ground being laughed at by everybody else that was at lunch.  Never hassled again.  That place of work had a 3 strike policy.  They gave him his second strike for it and I received none.  He was let go a few months later for abusing customers.

The violence in Jeremy's case I think was largely down to alcohol.  Punishment by the police will likely result in a fine and compensation.  Both of which I think Jeremy will survive just fine based on what he earns.

i beg to differ. he got drunk and assaulted a BBC producer. where was the asteroid?

The asteroid was the BBC's determination to get rid of Clarkson. Was my analogy to the extinction of a life form whose time is up by something that had been approaching the planet for a long time too obtuse? His contract was up for renewal but it would have proven difficult to justify not renewing it prior to this incident (despite previous behavior). Those with the knives out must have thought all their christmas' had come at once when this happened. Abusing or assaulting a co worker is not acceptable no matter who you are, bazinga, case closed.

I find the number of Jeremy Clarkson haters posting here to be incredible.

If I don't like someone on TV, I simply won't watch them.

Watching and hating Jeremy Clarkson must be a big hobby for some.  It is sad.

I cannot recall one JC hater in this thread. Any dislike for his behaviour or agreement that his non renewal is justified, isn't hate.

Interesting how we read this thread so differently! I wonder if you're confusing or conflating those of us who have expressed agreement with the decision to not renew his contract with being a 'Clarkson hater'. For me, this outcome isn't a case of experiencing schadenfreude, but believing that the outcome was just and appropriate.

What I find sad is the apparent willingness by some (certainly a vocal minority on this post) to defend Clarkson and his actions, and indeed propose violence is an acceptable solution to sort out issues, including in the workplace... The debate around this is far more interesting and important than arguing whether Clarkson is an idiot or not.
