Who are the ones who have taken every opportunity to publicise their dissent?

I don't think spoilt Harry is quite accurate, a young man influenced by early childhood trauma, having his whole life before and after Diana publicised by every tabloid in the country. Its little wonder he has the views he has.

The Firm has no dissent, its ruling with an iron fist, and causing the dissent.

For those that think they are greedy and selfish, that makes them spoilt in some eyes. Thats probably more a case of Royalists not wanting the long standing establishment upset

William has the same background, he is clearly happy to fulfill his part in the establishment, along with Kate, and good on them. Harry doesnt. He wants out, along with losing most of the benefits, aside from security which he is due, but not now, due to his status. Happy and wants to serve but not under a iron fist. If they had let that happen that may create an unwinding of their network, so they are cut off.

Is it wrong to be tarred in public and not allowed to voice the truth?

Her comment about having to curtsey when meeting "Harry's grandmother" showed she had absolutely no clue about royal protocol. Yes, the queen is his grandmother, but she is the queen first.

This is where I have a bit of an issue...HRH is not Meghan's queen. She's just some old lady that's the Queen of England and the token head of the Commonwealth - what does that mean to an American? The Kennedy Family were more royal than the Windsors to many Americans.

The very idea of doing a deep curtsey to your boyfriend's grandma is frankly preposterous and so outdated it should be stopped immediately.

I believe her when she says that she thought that was just a public thing. I'd be hard pressed to give more than a perfunctory nod when meeting her or any of the other Royals. They're humans. Who cares what their jobs are?

I can't believe how much heat this is generating. Are there really no bigger problems in the world requiring the exalted input of our armchair experts?

@Handsomedan it is to perpetuate the myth of superiority that has done and doing so much harm to society. Meghan pulled herself up by her own actions and not by a piece of paper, she has more to offer. The royal family is the ultimate of the British archaic class system that the remnants are clinging onto desperately. Meghan is a constant reminder that they are not superior.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

The perpetuation of racism and the inability of so many to own and recognise racism is a very big problem.

Surprised the royals are still a thing to be honest.

Yup they generate a lot of income for the uk but also cost them a fair whack as well.

Time to move on into the modern day and do away with them completely.

Or could they even disestablish the royals do they have the power to do so ??

I heard a comment on The Rock this morning that TV3's broadcast of the interview drew the highest ratings ever for any program in TV3's history

Parliament has the power to abolish the Royalty. Does it have the will to do so? that would depend on the polls and the electoral risks.

And had they embraced her, they could have had two modern, younger couples at the forefront of Royalty doing the good work, and being representative of 2021 diversity

I'm not talking about the racism. I'm talking about the royal family and who curtsys what and how any of this can possibly be of any relevance or interest to anyone.

No don't think it would ever happen not in my lifetime anyway.

It should be of interest as it perpetuate the myth that someone can be inherently superior to other humans. This filters down through societies and manifests in many prejudices, bigotry, misogyny, xenophobia, racism etc etc .

Going by the ratings, plenty have interest. Some like the royal traditions, some don't, none are wrong

If you met President Biden, would you assimilate to american tradition "Mr President", or would you be "Hey Joe, hows it going". Whether or not HRH was "her" queen is irrelevant, she is the queen of england and as such, afforded certain levels of respect and protocol.

For the record, I am no royalist, nor do I think they are particularly relevant to our day to day life in NZ and watch on all this hooplah with popcorn in hand enjoying the sheer entertainment value of it.
