Ikea NZ website is up and running. It's been an excellent launch so far.

Compare that to Costco still not yet operating an NZ website. That's a real pain from time to time. It would probably reduce Costco NZ mystique and store visits so I can understand why they're holding off..

Maybe. You'd think if they can get it from China to NZ in one piece they could get it a bit further though.

They'll be shipping full containers from the factories to the NZ Distribution centre and Store, They'll have the ability to ensure that these are fully packed tightly and that the boxes do not move around,

A single box in the  back of truck bouncing its way to XXX is whole different kettle of fish

>Maybe its just a Billy thing

I'd doubt it's a random decision on IKEA's part ;-)

Unless IKEA is setting up a delivery infrastructure - staffed / trained / equipped to their own standards...
then the limitations on what is / is not ship-able presumably come from our NZ 3rd party delivery companies ?

I imagine there's some magic combination of weight, dimensions & fragility.

On the other hand, maybe IKEA uses their own international 'big data' for 'bad experiences' with delivering certain items and chooses not to risk sending out stuff that keeps getting bust ?

They'll apparently deliver glass Billy stuff in Australia, just typing in a (fairly) random post code.

I'll continue to hope it just a first day / first week thing.

https://www.ikea.com/nz/en/p/billy-bookcase-white-30616563/ I have four of these, bought from a reseller, and delivered without issue via a standard courier. Ikea won't deliver it directly though. It comes in a densely-packed box.

Edit: I tried a few other postcodes, including in Auckland, and they won't deliver to any of them. So I don't think it's a dislike of the Eastern Bay :)

Edit 2: Or it's just a buggy website. I set it back to my proper postcode and now it's showing as deliverable.

I'm wondering if some of the restrictions are due to stock dropping low already.

Couple of items we were after aren't currently being stocked locally like

Local versions from Mitre10 etc are a lot more expensive.
