Rikkitic:

From RNZ:

"A small group of China's 8,000-year-old terracotta warriors are on their way to Te Papa later this year. Jeremy Rees schools himself up on their history with a new book from Edward Burman."

The caption writer should do the same. Those terracotta warriors just got a lot older. Who would have thought cavemen were so advanced?

Wow that is old. I have two 18" genuine fake ones from the official government souvenir shop in my lounge room, I wonder how old they are?

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

"Statistics New Zealand population insights senior manager Brooke Theyers said the increase in migrant departures and decrease in migrant arrivals both contributed to the lower net migration level."

No s**t! Who'd have thunk it?

What would be the reaction to this headline if it was a woman going back to work? Doesnt this headline insinuate that Gayford hasnt been working looking after his child?

Mangaweka Bridge likely to be demolished despite historical significance

"The new bridge is single lane, with a 50,000 tone weight limit, Jones said. It should last 100 years."

50,000 tones? Sounds pretty musical to me.

50,000 tonnes? Jesus, the bridge should last 100 million years.

Stuff must read GZ -

Correction: An earlier version of this article incorrectly reported that the weight limit for the replacement bridge was 50,000 tonne. It is 50,000 kilograms. The error is regretted.

Regrettably many of today's 'journalists' are merely reporters, or as some say, repeaters. They have little real education, non-existent critical faculties, and an inability to proofread or spot the grammatical and spelling errors made by their word processors. In other words, they are a perfectly suited product of their times for a texting generation that also can't read or write, and wouldn't want to if they could.

^^^ Hey, they're happy in their blissful ignorance. wink

As long as they're getting their important news like which celebrity's dog is sporting a new designer haircut and which Kardashian posted the most daring pic on Instagram today.

As much as you ( and most of us here at GZ) seemingly denigrate these kinds of news articles, there must be sizeable chunk of the population that do consider this as interesting and newsworthy, at least to themselves.

These articles would be generating interest and eye-balls, otherwise they wouldn't be published.

Why else are womens mags still so popular ? Surely not for the cooking articles ? :-)

Not sure what women's mags you are reading but Cosmo down under just went under, along with a whole slew of lesser gossip rags. It is not a good time to be a 'woman's' magazine.

I think the numbers were lost in translation. There are approximately 8,000 terracotta peices.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

It's magazines in general.  They are actually quite expensive at the retail counter - probably victims of advertising revenue being siphoned off into Zuckerberg's pockets.

I use my "fly buys" points for subscriptions.  Points seem to accumulate at about the rate a subscription to NZ Geo costs, I consider that close to free.

The man who struggles to live on $325,000

In the NZH, syndicated from news.com.au apparently.

Oh - if only there was a "comments" section - even I'd be tempted to slag the moron.  But nah - it's cheap trolling by the Aus news media, best ignored - shame NZH doesn't see it that way - or perhaps they do.

Surprised they didn't start a give-a-little page for him. You know just to tide him over until he can sell one of his investment properties. What do you mean he doesn't want to sell?

Can't wait for the Herald to go behind a paywall.

This headline  takes the cake

Rescue chopper pilot warns of 'catastrophic' drone near miss

https://www.newstalkzb.co.nz/on-air/larry-williams-drive/audio/james-taylor-drone-near-miss-could-have-been-catastrophic/

How can a near miss be catastrophic?
