kingdragonfly: Hero truck driver has Australian hosts in stitches
Today Show Australia
This New Zealand man became an instant hero after he stopped a robbery while doing a grocery run at his local Coles
Seems like a good bloke, but it was super cringey the way they were making fun of him.

kingdragonfly: Trip Through New York City in 1911
Denis Shiryaev, 4k, 60 fps
Restored with neural networks 1911 New York footage taken by the Swedish company Svenska Biografteatern on a trip to America
Loved the bit between 3.59 to 4.41 with the car of 7 plus the Negro chauffeur. In the inside lane (no actual marked lanes) are the horse drawn vehicles then the motorised vehicles travelling on the tram tracks. He then puts his right arm straight out to indicate he is going to stop so a horse drawn cart can cross in front of him. Driving on he then swerves left to avoid a horse drawn carriage and then pulls right to avoid the trams. Fun times driving in 1911.
Also, we thought we have air pollution problems now. Wow they had it real bad back then.
Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.
Actually, everything looks weirdly modern, somewhat like a movie site where everyone is in period costume. It all seems so tidy and organised and ordinary. Also lots of traffic, even in those days.

...A little digging finds that although neuroscientists may be just figuring out the power of near-misses to keep gamblers playing, slot-machine makers have known about it for decades. In a 2008 study, scientists analyzed how "slot machine manufacturers use virtual reels and a technique called 'award symbol ratio' to create a high number of near misses above and below the payline"—that is, so that the losing icon appears right above or below the winning cherries, lemons, or whatever. Thus we see yet again that when there is money to be made by understanding the brain, business beats science.
