'Convenience fees' for using a payment gateway that will feed money into their system with all the information needed to automatically reconcile any payment I make.

Yes, I don't have to go to a store, but you don't have to have one for me to go either. Funny how I don't get to charge a 'processing fee' at my hourly rate for the time spent paying your bill and incurring your fee, even though I've basically used a system that creates no extra work for you whatsoever and vastly streamlines things at your end.

It could be worse. Here any government payment attracts "knowledge fees" and "innovation fees".

A local restaurant has a surcharge for online orders, but not orders placed over the phone.

Meanwhile, something that both annoys me and makes me smile: Google has fixed a bug that I reported! But it took ~18 months...

I reported a bug to garmin about a serious map error once -- garmin maps had a non-existent bridge in a rural area that may have been in 'future plans' .

Thinking the bridge exists, garmin navigation directs you down a long road (20km?).  But, it is a dead-end road.

4 years after submitting the same error a few times, garmin had still not corrected the problem so I gave up even my curiousity checks.

But, garmin can still defend their map errors by claiming they have a resolution process in place. Even though it doesn't work....grrrr.

I guess we are lucky that our Govt has little knowledge and provides no innovation.

Spigot bearing seized on the input shaft of a car I'm changing the clutch on, and so far it's defied all efforts to split the gearbox from the engine.  I'll give it one more go, but I'll be in really deep trouble if that fails.

But I wish I didn't.  Now I've got choices:

Keep trying what I've been trying, with low chance it'll work - a reasonable assumption IMO - because nothing's worked so far.
Remove both the engine and gearbox from the car.  That will work - but goodbye weekend.
Put the car on a trailer, cart it to a workshop and pay someone else to do the job.  Then try to erase unpleasant memory of abject failure with beer or counselling.
Have lunch, mull over what I might have done wrong, pray to the Flying Spaghetti Monster in the hope that he'll answer me with some "eureka" advice.  If he hasn't answered by 5pm, then I think I'll have a beer.  If he hasn't answered by the morning, I'll change religion.

Jeremy Clarkson can fix this, and he only needs a hammer.

Nothing you can't fix(*) with an angle grinder.

This is my go-to (sans counselling).

Here's a white person problem: I have to read an owner's manual to operate an oven

My previous Haier would not turn on, until you press a magic key combination, by holding down two buttons simultaneously. I had to post a note warning anyone using it about the magic buttons press.

My WhirlPool oven is constantly verifying every step I make.

I have to scroll through a menu to find "start", which I then confirm with an "OK" button.

You'd think at this point it would start, but no. Another screen says "Insert food and press OK"

If I miss it, the oven turns off the heating elements, and slowly cools off instead of cooking.

My next oven is going to be a rebuilt 1950's one, so I don't have to deal with all these stupid screens and buttons.

Should be fine as long as the Flux Capacitor is still....fluxing.
