Finally got my parcel yesterday, picked up from the local Countdown. I had no idea a service like this even existed, so may use it again in the future.

I tried this service out a year or so back, and the people at Countdown were so clueless about the service that they ended up making multiple calls around the store to get various managers involved. It took an age to get my package, and so I've been a little turned off by the whole idea to be honest.

Hopefully they're a little more clued-up on the whole thing now.

Got a movie from JB AU yesterday 7 Dec 22. It was apparently fulfilled by them on 6 Sep.

Strangely the label on the box it came in has signature of sender 16 Nov. So what the heck was it doing for those 9(?) weeks before it even got to be posted ?

I'm wondering whether a domestic parcel has actually shipped yet: Two days ago they sent the "your order has shipped" email but according to tracking it's still sitting in their loading bay waiting to be picked up.

Often get tracking thats in the wrong order. They probably use Windows. Need to get Elon in, he's good at sorting things out...

USPS. Package started in Colorado and has been slowly working its way east to New Jersey where it's been sitting for the last week, possibly because it can't go any further away from NZ without falling into the ocean.

Auspost is pretty crap right now 5+ days now moving ~50km total still sitting in Sydney. Will be sticking to Fedex/DHL even trans-tasman I think

I was looking at Auspost delivery timeframes earlier (I have an outstanding order from over there) and it says it can take up to 18 business days to NZ at present. That ain't quick!

Edit: Speak of the devil; I just got an email. It turns out that my order hadn't actually shipped yet. I'm now putting Joco Reusable Cups on the "incompetent list" as they managed to take 10 days to ship an item that was supposedly in stock.

It was finally collected from the retailer today, 67 hours after they sent me the "order shipped" email.

Maybe it was in this thread, or maybe a different one, someone posted a link to a website that could track any courier companies deliveries.

Either way, I'm sure I dont have enough life left in me to scroll around looking for it.

Does anyone remember what it was?

Thanks.

Credit where due: Ordered Friday late, processed Monday, picked up Tuesday, delivered to my rural address Friday morning. From Invercargill to Hastings! This time of year I didn't expect it until around Christmas or later. Also kudos to SES Direct. A highly professional efficient business to deal with from my one experience and I am very happy with the product quality.

Interesting info on strange tracking within the US, triggered by my trying to find out why a shipment was recorded as delivered to Burnt Scrotum, New Mexico rather than NZ:

The package was scanned going into a shipping container, but not when it was emptied out at the other end. Thus the tracking is continuing to follow the container.

Once the tracking shows it going into a container (such as when departing an Origin Sort facility), later scans in its tracking history are actually recording the movement of the container, not the package within, since of course no one can see the package itself, only the container it's riding in. Tracking will continue to log the movement of the container, not the package, unless or until there is eventually a later scan of the package itself. You see that back-and-forth or great-big-circle tracking history because that's just the container making its daily rounds.

Normally the package should be seen as soon as the container is emptied upon arrival, but if that doesn't occur, tracking will continue to follow the container as if the package was still in it. (Hopefully it isn't.) Once the package is seen anywhere else, tracking should get itself updated.

Downside is that now that it's marked as delivered I can't get any more tracking updates for the onward journey.

Megalag has posted an update on the 'air tag to North Korea' saga, with a deep dive into how packages get sorted. Pretty relevant to this thread.

Apple as always has been amazing. Ordered case and iPad on Wednesday 14th, Apple promised both would be at my door by the Monday 19th  but I had the case by Friday 16th and iPad the next day on Saturday the 18th. Shipped from Aus. You always know where it is and they text you when it's due to arrive. I remember one order quite a long time ago where I watched an item travel across China all the way to here at a breakneck speed. Might have been an iPhone, I don't remember.

I've had the same courier driver a while now and he looked really tired. He's usually done by 11am and it was 2 in the afternoon. I wish I'd gotten him a Christmas pressie. Next time we order something I'll give him some of my garden veggies ie corn etc.

Received an Amazon parcel this morning via Aramex.

Really good service on Aramex's behalf as it is still showing as "Cleared Customs" on Sunday and yet not out for delivery etc.

Delivery was listed as expected to be in early January - I'm really happy.
