Along the same line, people who drive around with their fog light on when it aint foggy... I know it's an easy one to forget but still....

Why does this bother you? Foglights point downward, I've never had an issue with this. In fact, I don't really know why this is illegal.

I have more of a problem with people who drive during daylight with their lights on full beam -- some cars have really bright full beam and can be dazzling even in daylight.

Properly fitted Fogs point down and are no problem but many installed by backyard cowboys are aimed all over the place.

My understanding (and I could be wrong) is that when driving in 'normal conditions' the use of fog lights is actually illegal. The laws appear to have changed to be more lenient in the past 15 years or so and the Land Transport Law (2004) states:

8.4Use of optional lights

1)A driver may use a fog lamp only in conditions of severely reduced visibility, including fog or snow, but not under clear atmospheric conditions even during the hours of darkness.

Personally, it really annoys me that so many people drive around town, at any time of day or night, with their fog lights on. But I'm a careful person who tries to avoid annoying other road users and getting tickets from the cops. wink

Yep, our vehicles are fitted with factory fit LED daytime lights. The SUV has fogs that have not been used yet. Our previous SUV got a lot of fog light use around the central North Island but never on good days or nights.

Automatic lights have been around for ages - I remember a friend having them in a Mitsubishi Sigma (GSR?) in the late 1980s - so why doesn't every car have them by now?

I find that my automatic lights don't come on until it's a little bit too dark for my liking. I.e. everyone seems to have their lights on but mine haven't kicked in yet. As a result I tend to go manual.

Some cars (eg ours) have a sensitivity setting where you can get the auto lights to come on early/med/late.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Cafes who don't know how coffee loyalty cards work.

A cafe gives me a loyalty card with ten squares on it. The tenth square has the word FREE printed in it. Seems pretty straighforward - each time I buy a hot drink they stamp a square, and after I've paid for nine I've got to the FREE square so I get my tenth coffee free. Well, that's how it works all the other places I have loyalty cards from.

But no. Apparently I pay for coffee until the FREE square has been stamped, then I get my eleventh coffee free.

Hmmm... if you have a lot of loyalty cards, does that mean you're not actually loyal?

The card in my wallet clearly states "Your 10th hot drink is on us!" ... and has spaces for nine stamps. After you collect all nine, the tenth drink is free.

Americanisms like that used in this headline on the Herald site: "What happens when you call 111?"

While mentioning that site, "Monday Jul 25, 2016". the American date format slowly creeping in.

The z.co.nz online competition (spin the wheel)..... get my mobile phone, go to the website, enter my name, voucher code, and other details using the crappy iphone keyboard, press 'go' to spin the wheel then find out the webpage does not work on IOS.

After entering all that crap!!!

Surely they could make it easier as people would do this on their mobile.

Reminds me of "you need Flash to watch this video". I really wanted to watch it, so I installed Flash, restarted the browser, proceeded to the site... only to get "not available in your country". Why not tell me that before making me reconfigure my computer?!

Letter boxes

Apparently I am legally required to provide one at a house too. Thing only gets crap for other people, things from real estate agents that cant read and want to leave letters saying they have a fake "young couple" that would love to buy my house, and stupid free newspapers from dead tree media that I guess printed too many so try to get rid of them for free in peoples mailboxes.

I was going to take it down, since that would make my place unable to get mail like a factory or similar which would hopefully mean the redirect to the PO box would be free, but no, doesnt work like that. Thanks NZ post.

So what happens if you don't have one? don't NZ post just refuse to deliver the mail? It's not like you will be arrested by a bloke on a postie bike and charged with "failing to provide a numbered rubbish receptacle"

I don't mind having a letter box. I keep anything that's printed on news print and give it to the SPCA so the kitties there have something to poop on.

I seem to remember learning on GZ that it's illegal to dump your own rubbish in someone else's bin without permission. Should I put a "rubbish bin" label on my letterbox so that junk mail can't legally go in there? tongue-out
