msukiwi:

Received an Amazon parcel this morning via Aramex.

Really good service on Aramex's behalf as it is still showing as "Cleared Customs" on Sunday and yet not out for delivery etc.

Amazon seem to have some sort of magic power over their local delivery subsidiaries, stuff typically takes just 1-2 days between arriving in NZ to delivery, often it's overnight.

Whatever magic they use must be pretty powerful if it can get even Aramex to perform.

Why is it so hard for these companies to get tracking right? I'm expecting something from Australia. If I put the tracking number into NZ Post's website then it tells me it left Australia on 13 December. Meanwhile if I put the same number into Australia Post's website then it says it left Australia on 19 December.

I believe 19th is the correct date, as the AP tracking shows it taking various other (domestic) steps before departing.

Depends on whether they interpret left as queued for International departure or in the container or on the plane or flight departed. I've had something waiting to depart from Sydney for over a week now.

Edited to add: Case in point, something from Australia for which NZ Post tracking says "Departure from country of origin" in 14 December while Aus Post says "Cleared and awaiting international departure". The next day Aus Post had "Received by air carrier", two days later "Booked for flight", and finally another three days later "Flight departed".

Funnily enough, in the last few days I've had NZ Post deliver two packages from overseas. One from AliExpress, the other from an eBay seller in the UK. Both suppliers provided tracking numbers which listed details up to the point where they were handed off to NZ Post. These items never once appeared in NZ Posts tracking system. The system accepted the numbers but that ever displayed was a message saying "Update pending or tracking no. is incorrect."

Aramex on the other hand - they're proving as crap as usual having picked up a parcel from Christchurch on 12 Dec and it's still there. A phone call to their 'customer service' resulted in the usual lies about how someone would get back to me. Two emails have been completely ignored. One good thing is the supplier offered to send, then did, another item at no extra cost via Courier Post. It arrived a couple of days later. They've also said they won't use Aramex again.

Out of four packages two show as not delivered, I have received all of them well over a week ago.

One courier company handed to a third party courier company and tracking stopped after that. It was showing in branch in Christchurch where I live for three days, I contacted sender which is how I know it was passed on to another courier company.

Sender said it should be delivered that day which it was, but tracking still shows at branch.

Another one is a sender glitch, where their site shows that order hasn’t been dispatched but I have received it. If it went missing I wouldn’t have known.

Also I have with NZ post leave without signature and I have a place where it is out of site with instructions to leave there. They use to but lately have been leaving in full view front porch. If leaving instructions are not followed hope it means they are liable if anything goes wrong, they take a picture after put down so their own picture will show instructions not followed.

Behodar:

I was looking at Auspost delivery timeframes earlier (I have an outstanding order from over there) and it says it can take up to 18 business days to NZ at present. That ain't quick!

Edit: Speak of the devil; I just got an email. It turns out that my order hadn't actually shipped yet. I'm now putting Joco Reusable Cups on the "incompetent list" as they managed to take 10 days to ship an item that was supposedly in stock.

Total time to get package from Melbourne to Auckland: 30 days
Time to get package from Auckland to Whakatane: 1 day

Why doesn't this surprise me -

I've got 2 packages that have been sitting with the status Held for Border Clearance coming up on 5 weeks now. No contact from anyone about pending payments or something, called NZPost about it they can't help me track it, customs can't help me track it unless NZPost help them lol. Both different items, both from AmazonAU and nothing of great value in them.

I guess I just keep waiting and hope to see a tracking update one day.

That doesn't sound right. I would ask Amazon to ship a replacement and cover return shipping if the item ever turns up (it likely won't). While I've not had a shipment go missing in that state, I have had one go missing after tracking showed NZ Post had it.

Yeah they could be lost, they bounced around International arrival and Customs Inspection a few times each and the tracking had a transport delay notice because a plane broke down or something. But then nothing since the held for border clearance on November 28th. I understand customs probably have a hard time over the holidays and are slower but I can't find any notices or news that indicate something that would cause packages to sit for 5 weeks and not update.

Not courier post related, but is there a way to speak to a human at NZ Post in regards to a parcel these days?

Have you actually *tried* calling their number to speak to a Human? It's an endless series of menus which point you back to their website for everything.

Hence the question. Wondering if there is a secret series of codes you need to enter.
