A recipe:

  1. Preheat oven
  2. Mix stuff
  3. Mix more stuff
  4. Put everything in the fridge for an hour
  5. Do a bit more prep
  6. Finally, bake for 15 minutes.

Why did you ask me to preheat the oven more than an hour in advance? And why didn't you catch this oversight when you tested the recipe? Oh, because you didn't bother to test it, of course.

I always wonder how many times those "authors" actually test those recipes - even for taste.

This is in a printed book of recipes too, not just someone's blog or anything!

freitasm:

That's unfair comment when McDonald's themselves use the name in marketing material, website and social channels in New Zealand.

... a lot of which is recycled Australian advertising that they've been too lazy to adapt, a bit like the Australian kat fud ad a few years ago where they tacked on a token shot of Island Bay to make it a "NZ" ad. Also just because McDonalds' Australian advertising execs think NZ should use Strine slang doesn't mean it's a good idea.

The only time you can legitimately use "Maccas" in a sentence is if you're Rodney Rude, link omitted because it's NNNNNSFW but some of you will know what I'm talking about.

At least it's not a soldering iron being held at the tip.

It also hides the fact that 99% of all baking recipes are just "flour, eggs, sugar, a few other bits, mix, put in oven at whatever seems a reasonable temperature, bake until the edges are slightly brown" dressed up in fancy language. For example "separate the eggs, whip the whites into foam using a French eyespoon, dip the yolks in ducks tears and knead with your elbows, etc" can often be replaced with "break the eggs into the mix" with no discernible effect on texture or taste.

That's because everyone calls it Maccas or knows what it means. It's totally ubiquitous.

Australians love giving everyone a shortened ‘matey’ nickname based on a corruption of their real name - it’s a form of cultural bonding for them. This also happens here but is much more endemic in Oz. I worked there years ago and some of my colleagues were:

Shazza or Shaz - Sharon

Mazza or Maz - Mary

Wozza or Woz - Warren

Gazza or Gaz - Garry

etc. We had an office full of these.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.
