And everything else gets mangled by cutting the second half off and putting "-ie" after the first half, e.g. tradie, tinny, eskie, selfie (yes, we have the Aussies to thank for that one), etc.

So a video sharing website whose main use is broadcasting online gameplay (which may involve violence and massive body counts) bans a bit of name calling?

Name calling doesn't add to the quality of the discourse does it? How much name calling do you like to receive?

The online violence is an attempt at distraction. Online violence is fake and directed against virtual characters. You'll get shot at just the same as anyone playing that role. The abuse is directed against the person behind the mouse. It's personal.
I see this is part of a move to clamp down on sexual harassment, surely a good thing if you want kids to be able to go online with less of the toxicity some idiots like to peddle.

Probably a little more than something small, but app developers that use a webview to do oAuth rather than opening the phones system browser. So autofill will either not have the website in question to fill, or it will list everything possible that could be used in that app. Then I have to 2 factor the webview because its not a browser I have ever used before. FFS use the actual browser on the phone and have it hand back to your app when done properly.

the paper straws at Macca's, other than the terrible feel of them in your mouth is that they get wet then break down and dissolve into a pulpy mess after a few sucks .

And they are impossible to suck a shake through 🙃

Can you ask them for a proper straw or are they exclusivly paper only? I have only been for breakfast in so long that I have only encountered a cardboard straw once. If its not an option to get a real one then I may have to stock up from the KFC at the foodcourt in the mall who have real ones in a tray out for the picking.

I do a little on-line gaming, and I'm sometimes I'm several times older than the people I play.

I never abuse anyone, and my comments are usually limited to commenting about what lousy reflexes I have, when losing, and "good game. thanks", if I win.

The young have much better reflexes, and have lots of machismo. As an older player I go into defensive strategic play. Younger players tend to over-heat in long slogs.

A "tell" is when I start getting abused. I know I'll win in a few seconds if another player starts spouting personal abuse. I actually enjoy the abuse, and the more incoherent and unjointed the abuse the more I enjoy it.

I never return the abuse, I just revel in the moment that I'm winning.

As the old old saying goes: "success is the best revenge."

Maybe the emulsifiers attack the wax coating on the straw.

Back in the day when shakes were legally able to be called "milkshakes", I don't recall this being a problem.

If you had a problem sucking the straw, you'd probably find that a lump of something was blocking the straw.  I learned the hard way to check first - not suck harder - some corner dairy owners used to keep the straws in an open container on the counter, it was a dead fly.

My local KFC also has a tray of straws on the counter, along with a sign that essentially says "Don't use these straws as you'll stuff up the environment" (but in a more PC way).

Australians love giving everyone a shortened ‘matey’ nickname based on a corruption of their real name - it’s a form of cultural bonding for them. This also happens here but is much more endemic in Oz. I worked there years ago and some of my colleagues were:

Shazza or Shaz - Sharon

Mazza or Maz - Mary

Wozza or Woz - Warren

Gazza or Gaz - Garry

etc. We had an office full of these.

How irritating. Up there with “ambo”, “firie “ and “boatie” that sounds like six year old kids in the school playground.

Absolutely! Before you know it, the youth will be using the shortened versions of words like refrigerator, omnibus, and television!

They do still have the plastic straw/spoon thingies from some other overpriced sugar filled drink product. The paper straws are awful and I won't use them. I'm not against paper straws (although I will always take plastic if possible), just that the straws used by McDonalds are rubbish.

Another annoying thing at McDonalds is the newer electronic displays at the drive-through don't display the full menu. Typically they only show promotional items and other high profit items that McDonalds are trying to push. Usually I just get the Mc-minion on the other end of the speaker to read out the menu until I hear what I want.

Paper straws are useless however the jumbo size seem to fare better. I get my milkshakes at Babylon and theirs last the shake.

Quite a number of years back in Korea I was served straws made from pasta. I don’t know why in NZ no one has ever introduced them. A quick check showed AliExpress sells them and calls them natural wheat straw. $1 per 100. Some bad reviews from the rice ones though.

Using the Manage My Health app to make a doctors appointment ASAP. First appointment available on 5th January 2021 and the option of making an appointment with one of the other doctors in the practice... blocked.

Meanwhile...bit late to cancel the joy...looks definitely like I’ll be cooking Xmas dinner for 14 people, standing on one leg like a flamingo.
