A client of mine was subject to a huge amount of email spoofing a few months ago. It's started again this week and they are now inundated with phone calls from people who see "Company Name" <asd2321@gtfedd.de> and call them to say they've been hacked.

Even though "Company Name" is misspelt, the email address is clearly rubbish, the content just says "open this attachment" and their email client logged it as spam they still insist we sent it.

The number of them who say they tried to open the attachment is staggering.

I generally tell the company that someone is using their company name in any phishing attempt. It's their company reputation being abused

The reason is the company should have IT staff who will be
  • risking their own equipment on a possible novel attack

  • deobfuscate the various pieces

  • following all URLs, and examine all attachments .

  • report it to Google and other authorities like NZCert
Here's my contact list of email addresses
  • Amazon ----------- stop-spoofing@amazon.com
  • ANZ ----------- hoax@cybersecurity.anz.com
  • Apple ----------- reportphishing@apple.com
  • DHL ----------- spam@dhl.com
  • Fedex ----------- abuse@fedex.com
  • List-manage.com ----------- abuse@mailchimp.com
  • Mailchimp ----------- abuse@mailchimp.com
  • NetFlix ----------- phishing@netflix.com
  • PayPal ----------- spoof@paypal.com

You may want to tell your email administrator to create an outgoing email rule to allow these users to bypass the outgoing email attachment filter: abuse, hoax, phishing, reportphishing, spam, spoof, stop-spoofing

Sales stating "20% off storewide" but half the stock seems to be suddenly "missing" from the website.  In this case, new season shoes that were well in stock last week but no longer appear.

No prizes for guessing which repeat offender is rebelling this time.

Ringing my mother to say Happy Christmas and having to endure a 45 minute rant about the neighbours she hates, the French, Brexit, lorry drivers, Price Harry and his new boss etc etc.

Eventually escaped and realised that she never even asked me how we were!

Perhaps you will learn your lesson for next time? Always have a reason to end the call ready.

I remember visiting my Dad for a holiday, after spending thousands on a plane ticket, and 12 hours in a plane.

He opened the door, and started to laugh mockingly.

"Wow" pointing to my stomach "look how fat he is. Hey everybody! Check how how fat he is. Ha ha ha. Come in."

Then starts with a news dump ala Fox News, and how blacks are ruining everything.

That was the last time I visited before he died. Good riddance.

Record about five minutes of you saying "uh-huh..... OK..... umm..... uh-huh..... yeah...." on your phone before you call and put it on loop play once she starts.

Also, turn in your geek card for not thinking of this one yourself.

Going to the local Resene paint shop to pick up a test pot of Alabaster and finding they're all out.

Resene person: Yeah, that's very popular, as soon as we get a set of four in they're gone the same day.

Me: So if they're that popular don't you think it'd be a good idea to order more at once, like ten or twenty?

Resene person: [gives me the same look a cow gives an oncoming train].

Oh, so you're the reason they're always out?

Thanks, would be useful because it doesn't look like you can get it anywhere, other places that have test pots seem to be permanently out as well. Was going to order it direct once they re-open next month.

Mind you now that I know that every man and his wombat is painting in Alabaster I might have to go for a less trendy colour like Eighth Sea Fog.

Eighth? Easy going on the colour there !

Painting a whole shed from testpots will take a while!

You can order colour swatches online.

If you need something sooner, quarter rice cake is pretty close

That the 10 year smoke detector lasted 6 years....I dated it when installed.

So should I take it back to Mitre10... who has a receipt after 6 years.
