Handsomedan:

The electric fly swat has been my best and most satisfying purchase of the summer.

The loud thwack/crack as you catch one of the buggers mid-flight is so good.

I have one of these, https://www.bugasalt.co.nz/collections/accessories/products/yellow-bug-a-salt-2-0

i also have one of the tennis racquets and like the bug-a-salt more.

Bung: The ones that zig zag around in the centre of the room are known as lesser house flies Fannia Canicularis.

Maybe in your neck of the woods where they talk real fancy, here they're "b****y blue-arsed flies". Collies are a great way to deal with them.

Jase2985:

this is when you crank your music at 8am as payback.

Not quite. What you do is record their party going full blast at 3am, then play it back to them via the line array pointed onto their property at 8am.

We've had them for a few years now, I enjoy them immensely as I *hate* flies.

My son is also a dab hand with them. If you don't know, approaching them from the front has a much higher chance of getting them as they jump forward not backward..

He hasn't quite perfected the art of snapping them out of the air with a tea towel as I have done on occasion. It's good to still be able to leave him in awe occasionally.

Picture this, a busy petrol station located on a busy road with a centre meridian which means the petrol station can only be accessed by traffic on that same side of the road. It's also 10 cents off day so it's extra busy. For those familiar with Hamilton, Mobil on Te Rapa.

I'm on my way home from work with 70 km of range left in the tank so decided to fill up at $1.63/l.

Three drivers astounded me.

As I turned into the forecourt area an SUV was leaving the pump closest to the road but instead of heading out the far end of the forecourt as would be normal to align with the traffic flow on the road this driver is heading in my direction against the flow into the forecourt meaning they have to make an acute turn to get back into the traffic. Well it appears they had somehow managed to manoeuvre the vehicle so that they had backed into the lane by the pump so as to put the pump nozzle on the same side as the cars filler.

It didn't end there. The forecourt was jammed packed, most lanes were three cars deep. From experience I know a lot of drivers don't realise there's a lane furthest from the road which is often empty. I could see there was only one car at this pump but there was a guy in front of me in a Toyota Ute holding back and blocking my path. His fuel flap was on the left and I figured he was going to go the the pump to the right as it had the nozzle on the right and was only occupied by one car. But no, he lined up for the  pump I had originally had my eye on and then to my astonishment did a U turn after the previous car left to park facing the wrong way. Doh!!!! If he had taken the other lane as I had expected, he would have been filling at the same time without any silly U turn. So the next car in line used the open space beside the pump to do a U turn so that he can pull in behind the Ute, totally stuffing up the flow for that lane.

Finally as I got out to refuel my car a Nissan Duke pulled into the bay beside me. Magically this driver manged to do a three point turn beforehand and back into the lane and is now facing the flow, totally stuffing up the flow in another lane. I felt like saying something but figured by the drivers demeanour that might not end well.

How can people be so dumb, selfish, thoughtless, disconnected?

Fair enough I can see why you might want to have the nozzle close to the fuel flap, I do the same, but  join a queue for a lane with the nozzle on the correct side rather than be a dick and totally disrupt the flow.

I know, it's as if people don't know the hose stretches to the other side of a car.

Coupled with drivers parking and going off to get coffee made, petrol stations are places I avoid.

They dont everywhere, and it often means the hose touches the car which will scratch it up.

Really think the old cars with it in the middle at the back under a flap that has the numberplate on it was a great location. But all that safety carryon ruined that.

Which is why the petrol symbol on the dashboard has an arrow next to it showing which side you have to drive up to the pump with to get the hose in.

As much as, oh, I dunno, one in ten people know this.

I believe that if there's no arrow, the side that depicts the fuel pump hose is the side the filler cap is on.

Nope again doesnt always hold true

id say in most cases, 90%+ either the arrow or pump hose shows the correct position of the filler but there are some cars ive seen which it doesnt

Android updates. They aren't cumulative so when I got to check father-in-laws Nokia (which has an update every month) and noticed last updated in January 2020 I knew it would be a ride... Applied 2020-02, 2020-03, 2020-04 and stopped there (time to leave) Each update is download, install, optimise apps, restart, manually check again - in all about 10 to 15 minutes each.

Still have 2020-05 through 2020-11 to apply.

And people complain about Windows automatic updates - updates that are also cumulative so you only have to apply the latest one to get all done (the OS, not other applications and software).
