freitasm:

Android updates.

Just "Android updates". You can stop there.

And count yourself lucky that it's one of the 0.1% of Android phones that actively gets updates.

How to annoy hotel staff. Just learned about "lockout keys", which are marketed to keep cleaning staff from opening your hotel door while you're away, and avoiding theft.

I might get a set if overseas travel is feasible ever again.

Might be handy for AirBNB and bach owners, or keeping children out of certain rooms, but won't stop any serious criminal.

Not really explained in the video, but this doesn't "pick" the lock. It just renders it temporarily unusable. Internally it hooks onto one of the 5 or six lock pins. The lock pins stop the lock from turning.

Speaking of overseas travel, I just remembered this story about the "knee defender."

NBC News: This $22 Gadget Could Get You Kicked Off a Flight

"On Sunday, a tiny gadget caused a fight to break out on United Flight 1462, forcing the plane to make an unscheduled stop ...It was the Knee Defender, a pair of plastic wedges that lock a seat in position so that it can’t be reclined.

...It works like this: Pull the tray table down, place the doo-dads on the legs of the tray table and watch as the person in front of you screams obscenities because his or her seat won’t recline.

...The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) doesn’t ban the device, but every major airline has forbidden its use..."

Also banned by Air New Zealand, Singapore Airlines and Qantas, so you've been warned.

@kingdragonfly Not sure I’d want to use one of those lock-out keys. It means that if you’re staying in a hotel and go out for the day, your room can’t be serviced while you’re away. That’s OK if you don’t want it serviced - but usually I do. I also do not like being in the room while they service it. This device would be a bit of a no-win for me. It’s almost a solution looking for a problem.

Famous last words but in decades of traveling we’ve never had a theft from a hotel room - by cleaning staff or anyone else.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

The electric fly swat has been my best and most satisfying purchase of the summer.

The loud thwack/crack as you catch one of the buggers mid-flight is so good.

I have one of these, https://www.bugasalt.co.nz/collections/accessories/products/yellow-bug-a-salt-2-0

i also have one of the tennis racquets and like the bug-a-salt more.

Lol...who knew! Great idea apart from having to vacuum salt up from half the house after chasing them with bad aim. In any case they are sold out. I’m guessing all of geekzone bought one.

there is maybe a tablespoon worth of salt in it which is good for about 80 shots. unless its in a smooth surface you would never notice it, and would be cleaned up next time you cleaned the house.

It’s sounding better and better. I guess with them being imported it may be a while before they re-stock. If the spray arc is as wide as an aerosol it could be a go.

I can’t recall the last time I stayed in a hotel with an actual door lock. They’re almost always electronic cards now.

I would be more worried about the salt assisting with things rusting.

you have to be pretty close to them, about 6in or less to guarantee a kill

Junk emails from The Warehouse (don't know why I haven't unsubscribed..) are now headed up as Partner Email.

Even more cringeworthy than the 'Dear Friend' replies you get from AliExpress or EBay sellers after you send them a sh*togramme.

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

We're cruising around the South Island at the moment.

80 is clearly the new 100kph 🙄

No problem for me in my 535D but the blokes in a Ford Transit took some risks when overtaking yesterday.
