@Dingbatt Yes but I didn’t have a Harmony Elite and didn’t want to go and buy one just to solve this Apple-induced problem. And since I learned how to work my C8 remote with my ATV4K I too have hardly picked up the OEM ATV4K remote.

We mainly use ATV for watching ‘other apps’. If we want to watch ATV+, we can do that directly on the TV because both our LG C8 and C9 now have ATV+ apps. The ATV remote issue doesn’t come up because the TV remotes are the default remotes anyway.

still the AppleTV remote. A truly infuriating piece of poor industrial design

The most frustrating POS that’s ever been my misfortune to use. Apple out-minimalised themselves on that one. A new ATV is rumoured to be coming this year - with a re-vamped remote.

A few GZ-ers here recommended training the TV remote (for LG C8 in my case) to operate the ATV. For months I couldn’t seem to get the two to remember how work together properly. Each time I wanted to use them, the learning appeared to be forgotten. Then I stumbled on a simple solution, now have it sussed and it has made ATV simpler and more pleasant to use.

Prior to this I was using the ATV remote app on Control Panel on my iPhone and/or iPad to control the ATV - works better than the physical remote but not as convenient as the TV remote solution.

what was your simple solution.  I ind the LG remote great to use, (don’t even use my harmony elite anymore ) but hit and miss with the atv in terms of working

@stocksp

I don’t know what I was or wasn’t doing earlier when I had the pairing problems. What I do now certainly isn’t rocket science:

If we switch to ATV by selecting its HDMI on the TV, the ATV is often off because it has timed itself off. Selecting its HDMI does not turn it on - by our choice.

ATV comes up showing ‘no signal’ so I click the Menu button on the ATV remote to turn on the ATV. From that point on, the LG TV remote is operable - works well and is stable.

Some people may read this and say ‘Doh!’ but I did have problems earlier and now I don’t - and as I said, I don’t know why.

I feel for you.  One thing's for certain, we are certainly social creatures (for the most part).  I'm definitely introverted but the week after lockdown?  Well, imagine a nerd on too much coffee that's suddenly very extroverted.  Gets embarrassing.

Not actually annoying, just surprised because I have never been asked for age verification when buying turps at Countdown before. Was tempted to flash my Gold Card, but staff member took one look at me and approved transaction 😀

Multiple random calls from mobile numbers that nearly match my own (thus triggering my scam radar).  Talked to one who offered a complete review of my insurances but "was not selling anything".  Got hung up on after the second time ignoring my statement of "I'm good thanks".

These days any phone call from Australia I consider to be a scam. Only get one a month or every couple of months - but they all seem to be "We are an investment firm..." at which point I use my best French to tell them where to go.

I mean, calling from another country and trying to get someone to part with their money? Yeah, right.

Now I have retired as such any call thats not in my contacts list does not get answered. If they truly want me they can leave a message.

Wouldn't work for me - voicemail is one of the small things that really annoys me.

The ASB's Netcode payment limits. I just made a payment that was over my Netcode limit of $50 and it went through without asking for a Netcode, which it shouldn't have. Has someone got into my account and reset my limit? No idea. What is my limit set to? No idea. So I reset it to $50, as far as I can tell from the interface which can't tell you what the limit is. And now if someone gets into my account it's two extra clicks and typing of a number to set it back to whatever they need to loot the account.

It's like someone gave this to an intern to implement on their first day and then came by about lunchtime and told them to shelve it and move on to other work.

I think that it's intentional. I know that Nigerians resident in (say) Germany who get a bite from someone in Germany will pass the scam on to a friend in (say) the UK. I expect that this is so that they're essentially free from any law enforcement threat -- UK police aren't interested because there's no UK victim, and German police can't do anything because the crime is done in the UK. Interpol isn't interested in anything less than a million dollars.

Or maybe it's just easier to get an Aussie phone number with a stolen credit card.
