Miele are terrific products!
I have the Cat & Dog vacuum as well as a nice clothes dryer. Be aware though, you can't get deals on anything other than their vacuums as the retailers don't hold stock... it's all consignment, and we didn't actually pay the store $'s directly, it was all done over their in-store web-portal. No finance on Miele appliances either, it's all credit card.
Still, their condenser drier is tops.

I have one too, although I paid a bit more to get the older model which has more features. The newest version has some of the features missing, which I expect is to keep the cost down. They are very good with excellent build quality, but those vacuums with the powered heads do get a out a lot more out of the carpet.

Exactly. Never buy anything from a big brand retailer while they're running a 60 months internet free weekend.

"60 months internet free?" Too cruel for words! ;) Unless it's free internet, in which case, it's all good!

oddly enough the Dyson we bought a few weeks back pre "it's coming/it's on" promotion (as part of a 1 day sale) was cheaper than this weekend. We did get 200 prints for $10 though

Went into Palmerston North store on Saturday and found most of the prices had been uncovered permanently which was better than requiring us to lift a tab up each time. A few deals here and there but many places are doing runouts etc at the moment and you can often find the same deal somewhere else at the moment. Definitely not the killer sale I'd been hoping for.

it’s bizarre, but wen I worked retailing brown/white goods in the uk many years ago the situation was actually the opposite. We got kickbacks from the finance company when people took interest free so if so we actually preferred for people to use that method of payment. It was even worth our while giving a modest discount if people chose that method of payment over cash.

With a cash payment there was quite a bit of admin cost involved – counting it, banking it etc so it was pretty funny people asking for a cash discount as if we were a plumber who can keep the sale of the books or something.

for some reason the situation seems to be reversed over here. Not entirely sure why that is.

Depends who you talk to, this would make sense to me. Handling cash is a pain. Obviously not as many people pay in actual cash anymore, they are talking cash being immediate electronic funds transfer. Finance companies sometimes offer backhanded incentives but I can't speak for larger electronic retailers, however I can't see it not being the case.

We bought a bed. On the original 24 months interest free offer the bed was say 6K and they wouldn't budge on the price which was fairly competitive anyway, then they said they could do a $500 discount if we only wanted 12 months which suited us since we didn't really NEED the finance, it was just that it was said to be "free" when actually it wasn't. All in all we got a good deal!

I don't think the situation is reversed here at all, I think it is more the retailers are giving the perception that it is different here.

Have always shopped for anything big when there's an interest free weekend. I check the prices online, narrow down the models and then price compare.

Saved myself $700 off a new TV over the weekend, Bond and Bond and Noel Leeming maybe the same company but still managed to get a deal bouncing the two. :-)

Also checked out Farmers as they had a floor model and they weren't having an interest free deal/sale. Although I asked and they offered my 12 months interest free, alot of deals are not advertised :-)

Compared it with prices online before going just to make sure. Always say no to the extended warranty :-)

They get incentives to sell finance. Comparing paying cash and finance you still can get a good deal. Just have to remember to haggle which isn't what most Kiwi's are use to (Even myself) but one has to be cheeky sometimes. :-)

Wow our experience was the opposite, our condenser had an RRP of $1800 and it's crap compared to the $400 F&P non condenser auto sensing one it replaced. Takes FOREVER to dry clothes and often they are still damp and need to be laid out to finish drying.

They repeatedly told us it was normal, but as a family with young kids... Worst dryer ever!

Eftpos isn't the same as cash handling. But I think it has a fixed transaction cost at around 20cents per transaction. Unlike credit cards which is a percentage of around 2-5% depending on the credit card provider the company is using.

depends on your eftpos provider / merchant and this fee will either be fixed or variable (depending on the transactions processed). The 'chain stores' and large group retailers tend to get lower fixed charges.

You will note credit card merchants charge extra on top of the eftpos merchant fees e.g. visa/amex/diners. I know amex and diners have the most highest and ridicululous rates...I think somewhere between 6% and 15% of the transaction total.
