Satch: I find the number of Jeremy Clarkson haters posting here to be incredible.

If I don't like someone on TV, I simply won't watch them.

Watching and hating Jeremy Clarkson must be a big hobby for some.  It is sad.

Interesting how we read this thread so differently! I wonder if you're confusing or conflating those of us who have expressed agreement with the decision to not renew his contract with being a 'Clarkson hater'. For me, this outcome isn't a case of experiencing schadenfreude, but believing that the outcome was just and appropriate.

What I find sad is the apparent willingness by some (certainly a vocal minority on this post) to defend Clarkson and his actions, and indeed propose violence is an acceptable solution to sort out issues, including in the workplace... The debate around this is far more interesting and important than arguing whether Clarkson is an idiot or not.

A complete summary, well put.

From here, what happens? TG with RH and JM and a newbie? They don;t seem to want to. A refreshed TG that will take a year to be accepted if it's any good.
TG will work in the rest of the world so BBC ok-ish with that, which shows it doesnt need these three people , we are just used to them. Maybe JC will grovel back and start over, a new man?

Most likely scenario is ITV or Sky pay JC, JM and RH a small fortune to come work for them, create a new show or reinvent an existing one, fanbase goes with them, and Top Gear as we know it dies a horrible death.

My money would be on this, same people, similar or revised format = virtually guaranteed success, existing Top Gear with new people will never be more than an imposter and will struggle to get traction [cue new show name '1st Gear]

Love them or hate them these three amigos are a bit part of what makes the show, TG AU or TG US was always a complimentary show so the hardcore accepted this, i'm not so sure the hardcore will be as accepting of a replacement show

I'd be very surprised if there was no Non Competition clause in the contracts, or if enough of the idea/concept  of Top Gear was intellectual property. The three amigos, surely could not just replicate the show with a few subtle changes. Possibly struggle to legally front any auto show

Absolutely agree, not suggesting a cookie cutter approach, but it wouldn't be hard to come up with a format that fitted the personalities at hand and would keep the average TG viewer happy. AS long as i can see stupid things happen and massive power slides in cars I will never afford then i'm happy!!

I suppose the age old question of who has the better job Top Gear vs. Mythbusters has finally been answered, RIP Top Gear :(

I think he was referring to James Cameron, of course...Jim Carrey, perhaps?

Yes I am guilty of not wanting xenophobia and racism.

It's not that most of us are particularly keen on those things, but we accept that humour based on them can sometimes be funny. Personally I think no subject is taboo when it comes to comedy, and if you are offended by it, don't listen to it.

It is not funny

It really is.

"That bridge has a slope on it"  That was racist, and possibly one of the funniest lines I've heard on the show.

It's no more racist than me being called a Pom. That happens a lot to any Englishman in this part of the world but since most of us are white, it's not racist apparently....!

Both those terms are racist.

So Top Gear is dead.
Me and apparently 349,999,999 people will be disappointed.

There's certainly a few people in this thread I'm glad I'll never have to work with, because "THE RULES ARE BLACK & WHITE". Pull the stick out, you might enjoy life. :)
And if you "accidently" watch Top Gear, you're doing TV wrong. Mine has a remote. I never "accidently" watch anything. I change channels.

BTW, the rumour that James May said he wasn't renewing his contract was from a tweet from a twitter account @Mr_JamesMay. His real account is @MrJamesMay.

It won't be the same, no matter what happens now.

RIP Top Gear, I enjoyed your irreverent comedy immensely.

Unlike some people here, I have a sense of humour. Warped and more.

Chauvinism in its modern meaning is about male superiority, feminism is about equality.

I can see the finer points many of us have tried to express on this thread have been lost on you. To continue to portray those whose views don't line up with your own in such a simplistic and negative way suggests I too should be glad I don't work with "people like you"...Oops, too late - I work for a section of NZ government where I face this same quality of debate from "real men" (read unreconstructed MSPs) every day.
