Any picks on who the 14th Doctor will be? (also how many regenerations did they get?)

I think the last few have been doing 3 seasons (about 5 years). There will be some new sidekicks as well.

There used to be a fixed number of regenerations (12 I think) for a time-lord and a bucket load from the Tardis - however - there only has been one Doctor Who, so more than likely, as many as she wants.

A.I.  (Automation rebranded)
Gender Neutral

 ...they/their/them...

A Dr Who fan from the early days, but never liked Jodie Whitaker. Won't be sorry to see her go. Can't stand her constant nattering to herself.

The actor doesn't "natter to herself" for the fun of it, it's because that's what Chibnall says she has to do in the script and direction.

Chibnall unfortunately isn't leaving yet, so unless new Doctor makes him rethink how he runs the show drastically, we are unlikely to see any improvement.  I haven't even watched the last few episodes, the whole effective rewriting of The Doctor's history, yeah, how about no.

Maybe they could do a "DALLAS" and have the last season all be a dream.

AH - just said to my partner last night after watching the latest episode where Bradley Walsh and Tosin Cole left. I stated "I wonder if they will ever have a coloured or non caucasian Dr Who?". My partner stated "what about her" referring to Mandip Gill who plays Yasmin.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

After Chibnall’s horrible turn at Who, I’d prefer he leave ASAP. I think however, a complete reboot will have to be done to bring the fans back. People want interesting storytelling- preaching to an audience just alienates them.

Is the new year special worth watching, or is it just more of the same rubbish?

As I said previously, I miss Peter Davison (yes, showing my age there). He was Dr Who to me. I liked Jon Pertwee as well, even though he was before my time.

Who could be the next doctor though?

I've seen David Hewlett (Rodney McKay from Stargate SG1/Atlantis) on twitter talk about being the Doctor in the past, not sure if he was serious or kidding however.

Give McGann the series he deserved

Alternatively Stephen Mangan, Dylan Moran

Or closer to home with Rose Matafeo, or Frankie Adams

After being a life long Doctor Who fan I quit about two thirds into season 11. I think it had been going downhill ever since Stephen Moffat took over and David Tennant finished - but it was still watchable and had the odd good episode. But Chris Chibnall has made it unwatchable. Jodie Whittaker is a good actress, and could have been a good Doctor; but with the awful scripts and direction she was given she never stood a chance.

It doesn't help that critics seem to be afraid to give negative reviews to shows seen as diverse and inclusive, regardless of how poor the shows are. Rotten Tomatoes may not be the most reliable metric, but it's a good indicator of what viewers think compared to published "critical" reviews.

Best Doctor from original run - Tom Baker.

Best Doctor from "New Who" - David Tennant.

Like I said I quit part way through season 11 of "New Who", but from my understanding of how Chibnall has completely retconned the back story I think it needs a full reboot to be saved (under a far more competent showrunner and writing team).

Again showing my age, but did anyone like Colin Baker from the original series?

Personally I'd give that award to Troughton hands down the best of the original series for me.

To be fair I haven't seen a lot of the pre Jon Pertwee stuff (and possibly haven't seen all of his either). I think I've seen most of the ones filmed in colour.

Pertwee and Tom Baker. Been rubbish ever since!

I also don’t like the newer format. A 10 or 12 half hour episode season in which a single story unfolds was better, I think.
