I ordered a couple of things on Saturday using the non-express option and it said they would arrive on Thursday. The order still hasn't shipped, so curious to see if it will arrive on Thursday now.

Me too...if I go to order anything at all now, it says that the delivery date is unknown and I'll get an email when they know.

Wonder what's up.

Yeah just noticed that,

I'm guessing its COVID flight related and they don't have any forward vision on flights to NZ now that the Bubble is closed to NSW (Amazons "fulfilment" centre is in NSW)

Same issue... I made 2 orders last week, the shipping date keeps changing but no sign of anything shipping.

They have 3 holds on my credit card (2 for the same item) but according to their customer service they don't charge until the item has been sent.

The customer service 'bot' keeps calling me Mate

nunasdream:

I chose the ATL location as letterbox and the status says:

Delivery attempted; recipient not home : Monday, July 12, 2021 at 16:30

It's not in the letterbox so definitely an invisible courier.

We had an NZ post driver turn up with a delivery once. We heard the knock, got to the door in a few seconds and he was gone. Not getting in his van to go, not turning his van around to get back down the drive way, completely gone from the right of way and pulled out in to a main road beyond our sight gone. You couldn't get away from our house that quickly unless you had no intention of delivering the package and parked the van with a quick getaway in mind.

We are in the same boat. I am guessing perhaps they are based in NSW which has had COVID lockdown restrictions put in place, and likely to get a lot worse with a months full on lockdown likely.

A bit of a shame really, but at the end of the day, nothing I have ordered from there is particularly urgent.

The story is behind a paywall, but the headline pretty much sums it up ... ouch ,,

"Amazon shutters main centre

My package came from Melbourne so maybe stuff in the Melbourne warehouse could be okay.

Yeah , apparently they are upping the sourcing from other centres, but when combined with the lack of T/T air freight, its just more delays,,

I ordered something last week and apparently it's being delivered today, about a week ahead of schedule.

Mine still isn't showing as shipped, but supposedly arriving today or tomorrow. I doubt it somehow. I wonder if I need to have my items quarantined for a few days after it arrives if it's come from a Covid HotSpot? :)

I got this email now (my item was meant to be delivered today, but still hasn't shipped)...

Hello,

We're sorry about the delay in getting your order to you, but I'm pleased to tell you that we're preparing it for dispatch now.

Within the next business day you should receive an e-mail from us confirming that the following items have been dispatched:

[Item name]

You haven't been charged for these items. We don't charge your payment card until just before your parcel is dispatched.

If the order won't arrive by the time you need it, you can cancel the order or an individual item from your order by visiting Your Account, and viewing the order details. As long as the item hasn't entered the dispatch process, you'll be able to cancel it.

We hope to see you again soon.

Got mine today, very impressed with the prompt turnaround and delivery. It came via Fastway, if that means anything.

Geektastic: I found it an unhelpful site. By the time I got to Checkout I had no idea whether the numbers wetter were Australian dollars or NZ dollars.

It is always AU dollars. They say so on the help page.

You shouldn't really need to read a help page to identify the currency you're about to be charged in.

Holy cow.

Just specc'd out a PC i've been thinking about building on both Amazon and PB Tech. Love Amazon from having used it while living in the US and Japan, 1 or 2 day delivery free with Prime, easy returns if necessary, but was surprised at the result:

AMD Ryzen 5800X - PB $698.99 NZD / Amazon $648.19 AUD = $648.06 NZD
Gigabyte X570 AORUS PRO- PB $464.51 NZD / Amazon $311.55 AUD = $329.05 NZD
Corsair Vengeance Pro 2x 16GB- PB $299 (discounted from $394.30 this week) / Amazon $297.60 AUD = $314.32 NZD
Corsair MP600 1TB NVMe PCIe 4.0- PB $343.85 NZD / Amazon $242.01 AUD = $255.60 NZD
Seagate IronWolf Pro 6TB HDD- PB $343.85 NZD / Amazon $238.48 AUD = $251.68 NZD
Corsair HX1000 1000W PSU - PB $399.95 NZD / Amazon $325.14 AUD = $343.34 NZD
MSI RTX 3060 Gaming X 12GB - PB $1099.00 NZD / Amazon $1,139.00 AUD = $1,202.04 NZD
Be Quiet Dark Rock 4 Cooler- PB $129.00 NZD / Amazon $117.77 AUD = $124.29 NZD
Corsair Carbide 275R Case- PB $146.92 NZD / Amazon $113.95 AUD = $120.33 NZD
Windows 10 Pro License- PB $316.00 NZD / Amazon $202.81 AUD = $214.16 NZD

Total from PB: $3687.22 + Delivery to Christchurch $39.50 + GST $559.11 = $4,286.49 NZD
Total from Amazon: $3,636.50 AUD (GST included) + Delivery to Christchurch $59.99 + Import Duties $218.65 = $3,915.10 AUD / $4,135.01 NZD

Wasn't expecting it to be so close even with import duties piled on top. Delivery seems very reasonable, and if it weren't for making sure to use parts that both had in stock, could probably have had it much, much cheaper on Amazon. The holy cow was due to the fact that you're ordering and shipping from overseas, products which they already imported, with customs import duty on top, and it's still cheaper.

Hopefully the rumour that they are coming to NZ soon will be true. As sad as it is for our local shops, we seem to get fleeced at every turn when it comes to prices everywhere and with a giant coming in to compete we could see significantly lower prices across the board. Same goes for Costco- that's one store I really miss. Both US and Japan have it, and the price difference is significant.

Costco is going into Westgate.

I would doubt Amazon would bother, NZ is way too small to be worthwhile.
