OK, our son went out and blåhajed himself this morning so we are back on track, people.

Well, its now sounding like the Ikeapocolypse didn't happen,

Despite being told via the media for weeks that you would not be able to step near the place, or that every street within 50 miles would be packed with cars and it would be impossible to even leave your house to drop your kids at school . blah. blah.blah...

You seem to have missed it was a resounding ikeapocolypse prevention success then. Relatively normal day for everyone with minimal insanity.

When Sylvia Park opened, it was mayhem, the motorway was blocked for miles, queues were hours long. Fortunately people seem to have been more sensible today.

The train station opened about a year later. I believe there have been some additional changes in the area since then.

Saturday might be another story. Then again, it might not.

Behodar:

https://www.ikea.com/nz/en/p/billy-bookcase-white-30616563/ I have four of these, bought from a reseller, and delivered without issue via a standard courier. Ikea won't deliver it directly though. It comes in a densely-packed box.

Edit: I tried a few other postcodes, including in Auckland, and they won't deliver to any of them. So I don't think it's a dislike of the Eastern Bay :)

Edit 2: Or it's just a buggy website. I set it back to my proper postcode and now it's showing as deliverable.

There is now a bar at the top of the page saying that there are "issues" with delivery and click and collect. I guess it remains to be seen whether these items "should" be deliverable or not.

Chaos avoided today. Big local soccer event coming up on Saturday:

So had the nap after being there today - Did not buy anything large as it would have been a mission to get it to the car and it looked like it would be really slow to get them too.

Not really that impressed with the food I had for second breakfast. Least flavour I have had in meatballs ever. Its an OK while you are there meal for the price but certainly not worthy of the fuss so many people have made over it.

Half the colour choices on  METOD / MAXIMERA kitchen cabinets - no Vårsta stainless steel which is the one I was hoping was going to see how it looked - available in AU so that might be something to get the cabinets locally and if I like how they look when I next get to go to AU in person, then get the doors from there.

KOLBJÖRN is AU$120 vs NZ$170 - bit extreme difference IMO.

All the lighting is just in warm white. Ugh. No smart stuff at all. Perhaps they are waiting on the newer matter ones to become available before they sell here. Doesn't bother me since I just want zigbee.

Many things I had assumed were metal are actually wood.

Im going to hold off on the online order till I have my garage door replaced and working so I can get a whole lot more things in one delivery than just for the rooms I want to get done over the xmas break.

Yeah I reckon the lack of smart stuff is the change in ?platform to Matter.

Unfortunate timing for us with the changeover seems like we will not get their zigbee or sonos product lines.

The rechargeable batteries seem to have flown off the shelf though.

The Warehouse fights back with Mt Eden store reopening for bargain drops:

One News: "The Balmoral Rd site has been dormant since 2014 but, for the next few months, it’s getting a new lease of life as a pop-up store," The Warehouse Group chief executive officer Mark Stirton said in a statement. New bargains would be dropping at the "old school" store every week, he said.

That is a great site in Mt Eden. It's a good start. Sadly for The Warehouse and everything they've achieved, the level of imagination required to break out is probably culturally beyond any corporate.

The Warehouse stuff is cheaper than Ikea, but that's because it's all made of Chinese cardboard. I don't really see them competing in the same space at all. Of course it has been years since I bought anything from Ikea so maybe their stuff is cardboard too nowadays.
