I am not sure what we have done in Papamoa to upset the energy companies, but this has just come through.  Octopus were clearly the best last time I checked and suspect they will be again after I compare prices again.  Crazy figures.  .

How many residential customers are GST registered?  It strikes me as disingenuous to send pricing excluding GST, and is just another way to make it harder for customers to compare apples with apples.

Even worse is the deliberate mixture of Incl. and Excl. GST values in Mercury Energy emails.

Yeah I had same issue earlier trying to copy and paste the table from my Octopus email, just posted a screen grab instead. Again your prices even with the increase so much better than what mine were in Palmy.

Is that PowerCo?  They seem to be in the middle for the amount of line charge increases

Made the jump from Genesis over to Meridian this morning, the import rates inc the line charge is a little higher, but the much bigger solar buy-back rate will off-set this for us

I will be changing over to Contact in the next couple of days ($3 daily charge, 30c per kWh and free 9-5 on weekends).  Anyone have a referral code I can use?  Think we both get $100.

PS: they have a tie up with BP so you get 70% off EV charging at PEAK hours! Not off peak, but at peak hours?!  Will make it cheaper than charging at home.

HarmLessSolutions:

We're charging 2 EVs and battery garden tools, have pumped water, electric fence controller and a couple of 700L chest freezers. Our annual consumption is 11,500 kWh and we generate ~18,000 kWh from 13 kW of solar over 2 phases. We're currently in credit by $440.

You really need to rework your calculations as there's no good reason for 15 kW of solar not to be viable with your consumption rate.

Investigated again - now getting 24 kW of panels, 20 kW 3-phase inverter, plus battery installed next month 😀

Good stuff. Be aware that some power suppliers will balk at installations over 10 kW so your choices will be dictated by that. We export a lot and Ecotricity's Eco Solar plan is a good fit for us but as we import relatively little their higher supply rates don't impact us as much as they would heavy grid users. The GST added to their FITs is just the cherry on top.

Also Ecotricity's supply rates are only going up by those increases imposed by the lines company unlike the more hefty increases some providers are advising of next month.

I put some numbers into a webpage I made. It doesn't make for great reading, no matter how you look at it.

Company                            Days  Daily Charge    Import Cost    Export Credit    Net

Octopus Current                  365    $503.70          $2798.79        $1166.94        $2135.55

Octopus New                       365    $629.63          $3218.34        $1045.25        $2802.72

Meridian Solar Low User       365    $629.63          $3056.70        $1166.94        $2519.38

Meridian Standard User        365    $1018.39         $2723.78       $1166.94        $2575.22

Genesis EV Home Low User  365    $610.75           $3276.96       $858.05          $3029.67

Genesis EV Home Standard  365    $848.99           $3073.82       $858.05          $3064.76

Unfortunately, Ecotricity have currently "Paused on-boarding for maintenance" until the 15th of April, so I can't get any price information from them other than their export rates.

Is it worth my time to change to Meridian to save $283 this year I wonder?

(Edit to fix formatting - I had made a lovely table, that looked fantastic in the preview, that then got stripped out when I clicked post!)

That's really annoyed me as why does it take 2 weeks to update prices?

My plan is up on the 1st May so im just waiting on their prices before i decide where to move to.

I took a long view.  Octopus and Merdian were within a few $ against my last 12 month usage when i got my octopus price increase earlier in the year.  But i switched because Merdian offered a 3 year lock, and i expect prices to be much higher in 3 years, plus with the increase in commercial solar, possibly lower feed-in rates..  Looks like they are only offering a 2 year lock at the moment, but still consider how much you will save over two years locking those rates in vs what the offers will in in April 2027.  2 years ago they were offering a 5 year lock...
