joker97: does anyone know if the refuse centre is giving free dumps? i have heaps of silt pushed out the ground that just burst open like tracing paper

I think they have larger things on their mind. Pile it on the street, everyone else is.

You have likely got *nothing* on the Bexley subdivision. Its likely going to be condemned.

There is currently diggers attempting to let residents get to their homes to get belongings. Not 1 part of the area had flat ground. 4+ houses visibly sunk/bent.

chiefie: @KingJJ if the place does not look safe enough, go to the nearest welfare centres - Linwood High, Burnside High or Addington Racecourse.

Take photos of any damages for EQC claims later - even if it is your landlord's responsibility. Secure your valuables and stuff, call your insurance to check for advice before you vacant your place and heading down to welfare centre. Turn off power at main and shut the gas.

Cheers chiefie, good advice. The Chimney is no longer standing however, it was removed this afternoon with one big push. House has been inspected and seems to be safe, just need to get the water fixed which is happening tomorrow.

It's annoying when there are no aftershocks for a longish period, I am sitting in a house that is about to fall down, so it's not wise staying here.

The houses look fine. The road doesn't. Why not just fix the road and leave the houses?

The houses don't all look fine. Check some of the photos around the specific one linked... There is quite a bit of evidence of cracking.

Cheers - N

Cracking/Bends/Silt INSIDE (heath hazordous)

I didn't take a pic of the bent house, it was a little bad taste given most the residents are in shock, and moving out.

i would suggest that those who weren't part of the jarring quake to refrain from clever suggestions.

if you were here you'd felt like you were put in a jar along with boulders and then shaken by a giant, and then again and again and again every hour or so. many many houses in BEXLEY above have split into at least 2, some into 4 parts, like jengga.

things that go through people's head - no more roof over their head, how to repay mortgage, post traumatic stress disorder, panick, etc etc so please keep it to yourselves

+1 - You don't know what it's like to go through something like this if you didn't experience it.
Come on, I lost my flat due to it, and am now homeless.

You cant quite make it out. This is Hulverstone Drive, beside the river. Multiple houses are cracked/bent as the land tried to split and leap into the river.

Crack in the door frame, window/top of door gap due to sinking. Cracks inside house too.

Ground lifted, sand volcanos. Cracked porch, cracked roof (cant quite make it out), sunk in the middle

That's truly awful. I'm so grateful for how lightly we came off after seeing some of the photos -even our chimney survived, just had bookshelves and lcds launched off tables and a pulled leg muscle from falling over as I scrambled out of bed in the dark during the main quake.

You poor bugger! You've suffered enough... I'll tell you what, I have some cereal saved up for a special occasion, I'd like to donate a box to the MichaelMurfy Relief Fund.

Stay strong! Cry

Edit: Just checking, your not actually homeless right? Embarassed

Unfortunately I think there's going to be a need for large communal temporary accommodation for quite some time because there just aren't going to be enough resources to fix all the uninhabitable houses in the next few days, or even the next few weeks. I imagine many people will leave the city in desperation, while others battle over what little vacant rental accommodation is available. The tragedy is really only beginning to unfold.

I encourage everyone who is able to donate to the Red Cross appeal. Our family home could easily have been ruined but we were fortunately enough to get away with nothing worse than a busted hot water cylinder, so I really don't mind giving to those who have not come off so lightly.

There are 3 welfare centres set up. MichaelMurfy, if your current abode is not safe to be in, please make sure you check yourself into one of the welfare centre to be on the safe side - Linwood High, Burnside High or Addington Racecourse.
