It was easy enough to pick the sightseers today, they were the ones with cars packed and cameras out gawking. And who can forget those people on dirt bikes who were zipping in and out of traffic. What part of town are you in Don? Dozen towels down now and a lot of water coming up thanks.

Shirley. Good to hear, put them though the washing machine on spin only to get the water out of them and then just do it again, even the wet towels spun will pull up more water.

Hey my lovely fellow Kiwis guys...I feel so sorry for you...I am so upset..tears in my eyes as I am typing this. I can't look at the footage or imagine what is happening over there.

I don't know what to say. You guys tried to help me with this inconsiderate idiot and I can only say thank you and you are in my thoughts. :(

Very good graphical representation of the quakes in Christchurch since Sept. You might want to change the day or view the last so many hours unless you want to see all 4900+ quakes they've had since then.

HI

Like lots of people I am in Christchurch and going through this.

We are boiling water and not flushing toilets (kids asked about the hole in the backyard lol)

Can anyone tell us if we need to boil the water to wash in?

I mean, is it possible to have a shower in the water if we don't drink it? and what about washing clothes?

I realise that we probably shouldn't be showering and washing but we don't know how long this will go on and we are wondering what will happen down the track?

Luckily we are in the north west of the city and have power and water etc. I thought we might be far enough up the water line that ours might be ok as there doesn't seem to be any problems with sewerage pipes in our area, only further down the system. ?

Any help or links would be appreciated.

I know they say boil the water before drinking but does that cover everything?

Following Tuesday’s devastating earthquake in Christchurch, Vodafone is once again partnering with The New Zealand Red Cross to provide essential support for those who need it. Vodafone customers can donate either $3 or $5 to the cause by TXTing ‘Quake’ to either 333 ($3 donation) or 555 ($5 donation). 100% of all donations will go to the NZ Red Cross 2011 Earthquake Appeal. This appeal will help people whose homes, livelihoods and wellbeing have been affected by this most recent disaster. Progress on their work can be found at: http://www.redcross.org.nz

Vodafone has opened this fund with a $500,000 donation, which comprises £100,000 from the Vodafone Group Foundation and the balance from Vodafone New Zealand.

Due to the large number of New Zealand expats in the UK, Vodafone UK has also set up a free text donation number for Vodafone UK customers wishing to donate to the NZ Red Cross 2011 Earthquake Appeal. Vodafone UK customers are able to make a £5 donation to the NZ Red Cross 2011 Earthquake Appeal. If you need to brush your teeth or have any cuts/etc, i'd say you'll need to boil your water for that. Maybe stick with sponge bathes if you have to boil it!

Not sure how the sewage system is there, so you might not want to take a shower where it'll go down the drain? If you have a bucket, you could get water out of the tap and douse yourself out in the backyard or something?

you only need to boiled water being used for consumption inc washing sensitive things like baby bottles and dummies. It also pays to have some boiled or bottled water for cleaning out any wounds etc

2degrees Christchurch Network Update

2degrees continues to restore service in Christchurch, and the company now has sufficient generators to serve all sites without power, with engineers preparing and transporting them to key sites.

2degrees says service in the eastern parts of the city and the CBD is today's focus.

Challenges include variable power supply and the time taken to install and refuel generators.

Variable power supply means some sites will transition between power, battery backup and generators, so refuelling is key. Given the amount of traffic on the road, fuel transport between sites can be a challenge.

Even with increased coverage, 2degrees maintains its advice to customers to continue to keep calls to a minimum - texting is recommended.

Advice for those wanting to help 2degrees customers in Christchurch keep in touch

With a number of retailers out of action, 2degrees has options for people to give phone credit to those who need to be in contact with friends and family.
• Option 1: Credit Card

Anyone can top up a 2degrees mobile user by calling 0800 022 022. All they'll need is the mobile number of the 2degreesphone they want to top up and their credit card number.

• Option 2: Transfer from 2degrees to 2degrees
