Black Flag is effective against cockroaches, which are the only life form I can't tolerate.

So is a size 10 jandal :-). For those who prefer less mess, there's this incredibly useful device. Also does spiders and similar.

Dingbatt:

So about as equally qualified as the current Minister for Covid Response then? (BA in Politics and Criminology)

Seriously, isn't the qualification to be a Minister supposed to be the ability to run a large organisation, rather than detailed technical knowledge of specifics? Isn't that supposed to be the responsibility of the people on the ground? The Minister manages, supervises, and sets policy (with expert advice). Or have I got that wrong?

Only if it suits your political view point on the individual.

Ministers of the Crown have a large number qualified advisors and Cabinet assisting the decision making

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Yes, but surely Ministers also have to have some capabilities (if they are any good). Is a Minister just a useless figurehead?

Elderly FIL has been getting "scam calls" every day for the past week, threatening to sue him if he doesn't pay up.  He's repeatedly told them where to go - nothing to do with him, and hung up.

The same scam artists call today while I'm there. I overhear part of the conversation where the caller mentions something about a letter, just before my FIL hung up - which makes my ears prick up. Caller ID seemed valid, so I phone them up.  It's Milton Graham (formerly Dunne and Bradstreet) debt recovery call centre.  We have a little chat, I get FIL to authorise them to speak to me on his behalf.  Firstly they deny making the threats I clearly heard them make.  Seemed to be a script "we don't make threats".  Then trying to get to the bottom of it, they can't find the file for a call they'd made minutes before without an awful lot of mucking around,  When they finally find the file, they won't disclose anything about who is owed the alleged debt. There's been no letter, they start asking for information I'm not going to provide. I mention how angry I am that they've been pestering an 85YO man, something clicks and they're saying "well the person we're chasing isn't 85, it's a young person, must be a relative with the same name, is there a 'joe blow junior' living there?"  There isn't - they believe me, they've closed the file and that's hopefully the end of it.

I have no idea what the hell went on there. but it wasn't good.  They called on his landline, they must have got the number from somewhere - it's listed in white pages with his address.  If they sent letters as claimed, then they must have sent them to another address.  If they're ringing people up with threats to sue them without doing some basic checking that they've got the right person, that's not good enough.  If they've got call centre staff incapable of working out for themselves when they're talking to an 85YO retiree when they're looking for a young person, that's not good enough either.  If they're being told to get lost because the recipient of the call doesn't know anything about the matter and is sick of being pestered, then they need to open their ears.

Rant #1 about my day finished.

Rant #2 in my bad day is "Save Barn" appliances.

~$300 cooktops are half the price of the cheapest alternatives for a reason.

A few pages back there was some discussion about credit card payments.  I was buying some guitar music for my son on https://www.rslawards.com/ but the transaction kept declining and the website simply asked to check that the details were correct.

After going through everything and overtyping incase there was a typo I get a phone call from Westpac - they'd automatically declined it due to the vendor simply coming up as "www."

They then OK'd it and the next attempt went through OK.
