Maybe they were taking their lead from the politicians and media on the Hamilton - Papakura commuter train launch the other day? The PM and Minister Wood were leading by example and were wearing their masks, but many round them were not.

A truly smart creature like a labrador retriever would simply scoff the lot in one gulp, plastic and all, then let nature take care of the unwrapping process.

This doesn't always work. Neighbour's trash hound found some meat wrapped in cling film and ended up with a blocked bowel & approx $2000 vet bill to remove.

During my daily commute to Wellington I find that almost everyone is wearing a mask, but when I went in on Sunday it was nearer to 50%. I found that quite odd.

Same.  99% are masked on my Upper Hutt to Wellington commute.  One or two of the school kids don't wear them on the return commute but otherwise similarly high numbers.

Less than 50% tracer scan rate though.

That's a very odd sentiment to put on a public forum. Maybe something got lost in translation.

It's on my coffee cup in the office. ;-)

With great respect, I can’t see how they’d get around or through the ring - must be another reason and/or getting in some other way.

That would mean multiple different types of dried foods (rice, flour, etc) had them in there as they came from the supermarket. It's also adult moths, not the worms (that I could see), so presumably they came in from outside.

Pre-ordered an item from a retailer several months ago. Forgot about it. Pre-ordered a better edition from a different retailer. Got the dispatch notice of the inferior version just now. Argh.

Edit: They have a change-of-mind policy :)

Couriers who don't deliver, then state nobody was home...

I now have to go to the depot to pick up or it won't get delivered until Thursday.

Yeah, I would say QR scanning is barely 10% on the Kapiti line.

Commute Mon - Fri on the Wairarapa Line and agree with above. But at weekends it's casual travellers rather than work commuters

The fact that fizzy bottled drinks no longer stay fizzy for more than a day. Bought a 1.5ltr bottle of Lift yesterday which I opened last night. Went to have some just now it’s already flat. I’m sure it used to last a lot longer.

Get some of those beeswax wrap kits.  I was a little sceptical of them at first but they work really well.

I wrote to the Ministry of Health about the train masks.

Their reply was equally supine:

"Kia ora

Thank you for your email.

Drivers and transport operators will not stop people without face coverings from boarding public transport. This is because some people will have legitimate reasons for not wearing a face covering.

For more information on who is required to wear face masks, please visit this website.  We note that children under the age of 12 are exempt from wearing masks.

If someone is not wearing a face covering, they may have a legitimate reason. You do not need to report them.

Kind regards,"

My reply:

"Thank you for your response.

Clearly then there is no need to obey the rule since it appears not to be enforced.

Good to know these things aren’t taken seriously.

Kind regards"
