Advertisements (and package claims) which state "x" percent sugar free!

Be honest and say it contains 10 percent sugar, not say 90 percent sugar free!

Similarly, the words "fat free" are code for "chemical shit-storm".

Geektastic:

I wrote to the Ministry of Health about the train masks.

Their reply was equally supine:

"Kia ora

Thank you for your email.

Drivers and transport operators will not stop people without face coverings from boarding public transport. This is because some people will have legitimate reasons for not wearing a face covering.

For more information on who is required to wear face masks, please visit this website.  We note that children under the age of 12 are exempt from wearing masks.

If someone is not wearing a face covering, they may have a legitimate reason. You do not need to report them.

Kind regards,"

My reply:

"Thank you for your response.

Clearly then there is no need to obey the rule since it appears not to be enforced.

Good to know these things aren’t taken seriously.

Kind regards"

When you turn off the ignition on your car, and the windscreen wipers are part way through a swipe when the electrics shut down.

I find that means "only taste is salt" for low fat meals.

I used to have a Saab 9-3 Viggen. It had several neat features. One was the small brain needed to complete the wiper stroke and prevent this!

I'm disappointed that you don't understand that the main reason for mask-wearing is Public Health and avoiding dying of covid, NOT to avoid a fine.

I can remember cars that had wipers powered by intake manifold vacuum. These had a fantastic variable speed effect, they'd go flat out when you were stopped, half speed when you were cruising, and stop working completely when you floored the accelerator to overtake. It wasn't that bad -  long pre-dating innovations like "flow through ventilation", air conditioning, and electric rear window demisters, all the windows were so fogged up you couldn't see much anyway - even if the wipers were working.

So, overtaking a slower jalopy up a hill in the rain involved winding down the driver window in case you actually needed to see in front during the manoeuvre - you could poke your head out in the rain,  holding a by then soaking wet rag in one hand to wipe the inside of the screen, double declutch to shift down a gear or two, and away you go.  If you got it wrong, then any safety benefit from the slow maximum speed was negated by lack of seat belts and hard dashboards decorated with switches etc designed to bludgeon you to death.

Having made a complaint about the poor process and general experience in applying for an internal job opening that I was asked to apply for (lack of updates, long periods of silence etc), I was invited to a video call to discuss with Recruitment and the hiring manager. After 10 min waiting on the Teams call I gave up.

Still haven't heard from them. Not interested if I do hear from them.

I can't see the problem here.

Well, nothing that can't be sorted out in  a few "Meaningful Conversation" meetings with the Capability Allocation teams.

They might even decide to send the people who deliberately let you down - because they don't care - away for an empathy counselling holiday workshop at a luxury resort.  If they can get that part right, then next time they deliberately screw you around, you'll thank them for doing it, because you'll think they're working in your best interest.

Waking in the middle of the night, looking at the ceiling to see a massive white tail spider pretty much immediately above me, drop down onto the bed. It's dead. Glad I woke up. Not sure what caused that particular set of events to occur exactly then.

It's the 5th Whitetail we have seen inside our house in the past month!

It’s getting colder outside. They’re seeking warmer places.

We see a white tail once a month around winter. But a couple of weeks ago I was watching TV in the lounge when something caught my eye, running across the floor. Got a glass and jumped on it. Not a white tail but it was not happy, bouncing inside the glass so much that was actually noisy - you could hear it bumping into the glass. Let it go outside in the grass.
