Microsoft has announced that the next version of Office will have a new default font. Usually these sorts of announcements are accompanied with marketing fluff around how research has shown that the new font will increase productivity and reduce eye strain while making you smarter and blah blah blah...

However, this time around, it's actually a request for "which of these fonts do you like best?". So, Microsoft is changing the font, but doesn't know what they're changing it to. How can you have a headline feature if you don't even know what it is?

Change for the sake of change...

Have you been reading Slashspot? :-). Yeah, they ran out of ideas for things to do with Office around 2005, apart from adding the Ribbon. Now they're so desperate for things they can still do that they're having to ask others which arrangement of deckchairs they'd prefer.

Oh, this generalises to a lot of other things as well: Windows itself, Visual Studio, most web browsers, etc.

The current presentation of weather on TVNZ 6pm news is driving me nuts. I was grumpy about the change several months ago from presenting tomorrow's weather first to presenting it only after a summary of the next few days - but now the display of temperatures for tomorrow's weather has been changed and is just bizzare. For the provinces, the high and low temperatures continue to be displayed at the same time, in that order. For the main centres (and its associated nearby areas - e.g. Wellington, Lower Hutt, Upper Hutt, etc) however, they are displayed the other way round and you see the low temperature first, which is then overwritten with the high.

Why TVNZ, why? I have asked and got a nonsense reply advising that changes are made to better present info etc... To make matters worse, the display style used seems to be down to the whim of the weather presenter on the night.

Why do they even need to do this when they don't have to sell new versions because people are on monthly plans?

The 37 drivers (yes I counted) that passed me in a 50 zone when I was indicating to turn right, not a single one of whom had the courtesy to slow a little and let me turn across.

And that could be a different presenter every night. Do TVNZ only employe part time presenters? I swear they each only work 3 nights a week.

Those of us who drive normal cars, not these idiotic SUVs, who  have to park next to one in diagonal parking, so you can't see a damn thing when you're trying to reverse out.

Those of us who drive normal cars, not these idiotic SUVs, who specifically park next to a normal car in diagonal parking, do some shopping, and later find the normal car next to you has been replaced by an idiotic SUV, so you can't see a damn thing when you're trying to reverse out.

And another moan about Amazon. Decided to buy the bluray box set of the A-Team series (yes everything was better in the old days).

Can't send from Amazon UK, obviously, but can buy from the US. The version they're selling of course just happens to be an import from...the UK. I order it from Amazon US, even though they won't post direct from the US to here, for who knows what reasons, so it has to go from the UK, straight to forwarder in the US to New Zealand. They say they've posted it. What does tracking show - Shipped with Australia Post Global.

Especially one with a canopy on the tray.
Like mine.

At least places like Taupo have the roads laid out in such a way that there's space behind the parked cars to back into that isn't part of the lane.

If I'm driving mine and having to park it places, I'm doing so because that's what I need to be driving for whatever reason, for example because I'm away at a rally and have been towing the rally car but now we need to go get some groceries so we can eat.  Not actually doing it to inconvenience others.  Usually I'm just happy if I can find a park that it fits in.

...close enough 😀

Not that anyone will give you chance to reverse anyway of course, as per Geektastics comment.

Taupo is a bit far for us to enjoy such luxuries.

And I'm sure there of plenty of people who buy such vehicles who actually need them and are considerate, such as yourself, but I'm also sure there plenty who buy them who don't, they just want big.

Having said that, our main car is a seven seater, but its an oldish Odyssey, which is pretty low really.

SUVs in general 😑 Anxious drivers buy them because they feel a need to see over the traffic. Watchu gonna do now that every man and his dog has an SUV and you can't see over the traffic anymore?

Have obviously given this a lot of thought and everyone is going to switch to the likes of Caterhams so we can see underneath the SUVs, or there's going to be a sudden shortage of really short double-decker buses...
