Fred99:

Our PM finally ended the Briscoes sale!

At least the Briscoes owner said he had no intention of sticking a pallet of toilet paper in his stores and claiming to be an essential service (a crack at The Warehouse).

Someone set up a "satirical" Subway NZ account on Facebook.

NSFW probably not going to last very long - but well done:

The fact that, AT LAST, we have 5 days of rain scheduled that will hopefully turn our scorched earth block into green grass for our livestock! No significant rain since Christmas has been decidedly unhelpful.

I just put Doom Eternal on my PS4.

At first I thought it was a game. Now I am wondering if it might be simulator practice for post Covid world order!

Smile isn't exactly the right topic for this, but since the subject has been raised, I was watching The X-files on SBS last night and the episode, about an alien pandemic, was eerily close to what is happening in the world right now. Just coincidence, of course, but it was pretty convincing and actually scared me for the first time.

We sat down to watch an old(ish) Doctor Who the other day. The episode ended up being one where they were in a facility designed to make quarantine more bearable. We then followed it up with an old Star Trek, which was entitled 'Contagion' (but ended up being about a computer virus). Both episodes were just where we happened to be up to in the series.

Times like this remind you that water is the world's most important resource.

Whilst this wretched pandemic is a right pain in the .... and it can get a bit depressing, for me there are a few upsides (in no particular order).

  • From a global perspective NZ is a pretty damn good place to be right now.  The optimist in me reckons that, if we do this lockdown right and keep our borders tight, real tight, then we can eradicate this from NZ in 6 weeks or so and start getting the local economy rolling again
  • I've got my daughter home for 4 weeks (usually lives in Auckland, she's come down to be with us in Wellington).....and she cooked us pancakes for breakfast this morning
  • I get nearly two hours back every weekday by not having to commute
  • Zero commuting expenses
  • A lot of the housework that often waits till the weekend is getting done during the week
  • Don't have to dress up for work, and don't have to iron any shirts
  • For the most part it is showing internationally, nationally and locally that humans really do care for one another.  The community spirit and willingness to help others in my suburb is amazing, I expect this is the same elsewhere.  Good to see that some large, capitalist corporates appear to be putting money-making aside to help.

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

That despite missing out on seeing Alanis because she has (hopefully) postponed her concert in NZ, I found out she has a new Album out in May. If the first two songs are anything to go by, it should be an absolute clanger. She is one of the most underrated artists around and got a fairly bad rap for her most well-known album. I love singers with a unique voice.
