It's obvious Prezoom is looking at this market. I was approached by their marketing manager a couple of weeks ago, and today got this in my inbox from a local PR company:

Prezoom, a unit of international air express company i-parcel, has launched its website in New Zealand, vastly opening the world of American shopping to New Zealand consumers.

Prezoom offers a free sign up and gives each customer a private address in the U.S. state of Delaware, where there are no American domestic sales taxes.

Consumers can shop at any American store, have their purchases delivered to their Prezoom address (and many American web merchants deliver free within the States), and have their parcels delivered to them for as little as NZ$19.50 for 500g with full tracking, compensation for lost parcels, Customs Duty and GST included (if applicable) and 24/7/365 customer service.

Imminently, Prezoom will open a receiving address in the United Kingdom so shoppers can source from British merchants as well, and special offers are in the works for specific products where variety and price exist in the States that is truly unique such as shoes, toys, etc.

Over 800 customers signed up in the first week and it's clear that there is real potential for the service to become an invaluable tool for Kiwis buying online.

Learn more about Prezoom at: http://www.prezoom.co.nz

But which came first? I'm confused now because a couple of reports in the media said YouShop was launched in response to PreZoom?

1080p:
ahmad: So Prezoom seems *a lot* cheaper? Am I missing something? And is Prezoom the cheapest?

"The rule for Internet purchases is a deminimis of NZ$60. If the Customs Duty and GST yield an amount of NZ$60 or more, it?s collected by us (when you pay for your shipment) and remitted to New Zealand Customs. In these cases, we will also charge an NZ$90 High Value Customs Clearance charge. If it?s less, the goods are allowed to be imported to final consumers without Duty or GST."

They are cheaper but force you to pay GST up front whereas I don't think NZ Post does unless it is pinged at the border. I'm not 100% on that, I could be wrong.

The $90 high value fee is a little shock.

@ahmad, this was my response to your earlier question of the same nature. For anything small PreZoom might be better but its automatic collection of GST (which I am unsure what YouPost does in that case yet) and the $90 high value fee are surprises I'd like to avoid.

The question I would like to know is what's the average weight of something like a graphics card as 500 grams or less would work fine for ram or a flash drive and maybe even some ssd's through prezoom but i am not sure a lot suppliers in the USA that do not ship internationally are going to put item weight on the items webpage. As it would be irrelevant for smaller items as most would likely have a flat fee for small packages shipping.

Calm down, put your tinfoil hat away. I can see what was ordered and shipped. I have no way to see who orders what.

If I can't see a SSD in the orders report then obviously s/he didn't order through our link. I've seen interesting things in the list though - pet hamster food for example...

quattrogoh: Oops, sorry. Will remember to use the aff account the next time I order anything from Amazon.

Any benefits of using the aff account other than supporting gz?

It's not different than buying directly from Amazon without going through our link first. You are still buying from Amazon and we don't have any direct input in the process. The only difference is the support you give to Geekzone by ttelling Amazon "hey I came here from Geekzone. Now be nice and give them a % to recognise it".

Just received my e-mail from YouPost, package arrived safe and sound and ready to be shipped to NZ.

My package was just over 1.5 kilograms so I had to pay $12.50 + $21.00 + $21.00 == $54.50 which was zero rated to $46.33. Fairly expensive shipping but I had to test this service out.

The signature required option is a free add on which is nice :)

I just saw this in their help section:

"If your parcel is assessed for GST and/or duty, you will need to pay additional costs for your item to be cleared by Customs. New Zealand Post can facilitate the clearance of your parcel by Customs and the charge for this is NZD $150 (including GST) per parcel. If you choose to use another clearance agent, these charges will not apply, but you will need to pay your clearance agent?s fees."

So they have a $150 fee if your item is flagged by customs. That seems incredibly steep since I can ship a phone (for example) in myself and pay nothing (except the GST) if it is flagged by customs.

Obviously if your item is below the GST threshold (which mine is) you have nothing to care about but for anyone wanting to use this service to ship in anything that might attract GST there may be a hefty sting to it. $150 + GST on your item. Ouch.

I am waiting for some sunglasses. Used youshop. Few comments:

Login and account management via nzpost is poor.
Target delivery date is a week and a half, that is slower than apple shipping stuff from china.
Not clear how they come up with the price. Says my volumetric weight is 1.5Kg (sunglasses remember), but only paid the 500g rate...

Not to be rudely inquisitive or anything, but out of curiosity, if I, for instance, buy a Kindle at $150ish, how much goes to GZ?
Doing some xmas shopping soon, and a Kindle or two are on the list...

An average of 6% of each purchase from Amazon. Sometimes more, sometimes less, depending on product and how many orders per month.

Hmmm. It's a lot more than Prezoom's fee - IIRC it is $90 from previous pages?
