When I saw Phil and Nick sit down at the Piano the first time, I was really hoping against all odds that they would perform Father to Son. Would have been perfect.

But Seriously was probably in my opinion, his best album. I like most of his albums, but in my view, artists create their best work when suffering hardship. Certainly seems to be true of PC.

The Living End at the Powerstation last night.

Tight performance and the hits they played were well received. I hadn't listened to the new album enough to know the new stuff.

Gorillaz with my 14 year old son in Tokyo last year. We spent a week together in Tokyo culminating in a great gig by a band we both love launching their new album , for his birthday. Awesome

( yes I know Damon is not really a band :)

I've no idea of the emotional context of each album.

He's more one of those artists where I have a personal Greatest Hits album than a favourite album per se.

But Seriously, No Jacket and Face Value probably contain most of my favourites.

He wasn't really more than part of the tapestry of music from my teens. I've seen a lot of those bands later in life though:

America
Jeff Beck
Elton John
Rolling Stones
AC/DC
Aerosmith
Guns n Roses
The Pretenders
Blondie
Bon Jovi

I missed out on seeing Dire Straits, which I much regret. Also Fleetwood Mac I have yet to tick off.

Greatest band I'll never see but would if I could would be Led Zeppelin I think.

Many bands deliver a much messier and less accurate rendition of their studio tracks: he doesn't.
Steely Dan were another live act I saw who could do that.

Agreed. Celine Dion does it, Elton John can do it. Billy Joel may have been better in his younger years but I left his concert slightly disappointed.

John Farnhams voice is deeper and more powerful in person I think.

I too would dearly love to see Dire Straits. No chance whatsoever of them reforming unfortunately, but I would gladly see Mark Knofpler in concert given the opportunity.

Alanis Morrisette was amazing, didn't miss a beat. I'd love her to do a full show here rather than a cameo 5 song set.

I saw the original Dire Straits many years ago at some stately home (can't remember which one) in front of a huge crowd and although I am a big fan and have most of their albums I thought they were disappointing in that environment. Mark is a great musician but has little stage presence.

I found a couple of up close and personal videos with Mark on youtube, including "A night with Mark Knophler" which was really fantastic, not so much from his "presence" but from the really pretty amazing collection of guitars he has and what he can make them do!

Those were the days. Bruce Springsteen and ZZ Top on the same bill at Milton Keynes Bowl as well. Fantastic.

Phil Collins in Christchurch. What a show! Amazing. I am still buzzing.

The Brass was fantastic and his son is a great drummer esp given he is only 17!

Agreed - Amazing concert! First time we've attended one in Christchurch and went without a hitch. Hot and sunny.

Pity about the liquored up moaners on bus back to the exchange that kept lecturing the driver about how the trip should be free. At least I know these losers are evenly spread over the country now, and not just resident in our city.
