You're simply wrong. It is a news heavyweight with enormous national coverage plus international coverage [...]

Sorry, in my opinion that's not credible. Stuff is many things. But a news heavyweight renowned for its enormous national and international coverage isn't one of them.

No one is a news heavyweight. They all grab feeds and publish them. Im actually surprised in todays internet world that news heavyweights was even mentioned. Internet is a distribution network. Back in the day there were real and genuine news businesses. Today they are distribution businesses.

I think your opinion is somewhat coloured by your paid subscriptions to international news services.

I understand why you feel that way because Stuff syndicates a lot of New York Times articles you subscribe to and others.

I do not have an active NYT subscription. For this reason I find Stuff's use of syndicated content here and there beneficial. It is all part of the varied media landscape we have now. In general I think it's never been better than it is now.

I am unable to visit the website on my iPad, and the desktop version just constantly reloads the page?

it gets even worse when they have factually wrong content and they shut off the comments.

Example please.

Ironically, that's exactly what they did on the original story I posted (way back on page 2) crowing about their "new, wonderful, improved" website that they thought everyone would love. After getting over 300 comments in that story - by my uneducated guess about 98% negative - they switched off commenting and then posted another story later on (see below) where they basically said "any feedback can be e-mailed to us now":

https://www.stuff.co.nz/about-us/350152237/whats-new-stuffs-bold-bright-website-and-apps

Why am I stuck on a purple screen of death?

...and as an aside, to support an independent NZ business, you can ask your IT department to remove ad blockers, as advertising revenue is our primary revenue stream on Stuff.co.nz.

Yes, because that's completely realistic 🙄

Quick updating re my iPad issue. Looks like if I disable my corporate VPN then it works fine.

Good for my home network, but a no go at work (all traffic is routed through a VPN). Maybe Stuff will reverse this decision after they see daytime traffic drop?

The old Tablet app was actually quite good compared to the Herald's one   one but the new Stuff one  is to be avoided.  Useless.  Uninstalled.

FineWine:

This may have already been mentioned, but I sent my own 'Feed Back' today.

"Hi. Not really thrilled about new site.

The biggest fault is you click on an article, it goes to that page and then when you have finished reading that article you click on the return arrow BUT that’s takes you back to the very start/top of the front page instead of where you were. So you now have to scroll down to where you were just to continue reading. This is very laborious."

They will get back to me in 48 hours.

With this mornings update, this appears to have been fixed. 😀

Though they never got back to me. ☚ī¸

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

I'm still getting the ridiculous loop on Firefox. Probably won't be checking it for too much longer anyway, they aren't going to take on board all the feedback they're getting, seems like just select bits and pieces, and they probably won't revert to the old format, which (shock, horror) worked...so I've gone ahead and changed my homepage from being Stuff to 1News. Even the mobile app uses a ridiculously massive font, and to scroll through, say, half a dozen stories, I now have to scroll on and on and on, whereas the last one would be once scroll and you were there.

Farewell Stuff, it was good while your site was still functioning - but this is an unasked-for mess, which you don't seem interested in listening to all feedback about, not just the bits you want to hear.

Used it for several days now and more than usual on my work desktop W11 Chrome. It doesn't seem new anymore I'm used to it. I have no trouble now landing on things to read and surfing around.

Good on you using an open source independent browser with 1-5% market share depending on your location ; )

Imo they will get to looking at Firefox. It's obviously not an immediate priority for them with a lot to do right now.

I notified them that I couldn't get past the purple "S" using Opera on Android. I noticed yesterday that it was now working and today got an email advising that the issue I had reported (without naming what it was) had been resolved. So it seems they are tackling some things.

Too late for me, they should have tested all of this sort of thing before releasing it.

Works for me in FireFox on both Windows and Mac and always has from day one of the redesign. If it's not working for your FireFox setup then maybe it is a You problem.

Because of the Stuff fiasco I’ve just discovered Scoop and am enjoying that instead of Stuff. I like that it allows comments which Stuff mostly doesn’t allow for anything remotely controversial. The Wellington section is very informative, no rubbish click bait and no trite nagging to pay splashed across the page.
I would actually be happy to donate to keep them alive.
