Has anyone found a power company offering Orion's peak and off peak hours in Christchurch (7am to 11am and 5pm to 9pm Mon to Friday (Peak) and the off peak the rest of the time?

Octopus.

Also Powershop, although with a slightly different allocation of peak (7-11am, 5-10pm weekdays) vs shoulder and other categories of off-peak. Comparing Powershop/Octopus/others before switching away from Meridian, Powershop appeared to be the best for my household usage.

Their rates are a joke ... the daily connection fee is outrageous and the normal solar FIT is no better than Meridian's, the night rate is a cent cheaper and there's only a cigarette paper between the peak/off peak rate and Meridian's day rate. I think I'll stay put (left panel is for generation <=10kW)

The question was  "Has anyone found a power company offering Orion's peak and off peak hours in Christchurch"

How do your Meridian rates compare to Octopus? Where I live the night rate is 33c meridian and 19c Octopus?

I missed the peak/off peak / night part. Anyway the rates differ all over the country.

I'm In Otautahi Christchurch and was commenting that Octopus were not competitive from my PoV - my rates are:

  • $1.02 daily charge
  • 30.4c day tariff 7am-9pm any day
  • 18c night tariff 9pm-7am any day
  • 17c FIT 24x7

As the night rate and FIT ares so close I can use the grid as a battery extension to avoid buying daytime electricity.

E.g. In winter I purchase some night time power to get me through the day. In summer I sell to the grid before 10am so I have capacity to store excess PV above my export limit.

Luxury.

Wairarapa,

Meridian

  • $2.1797 daily charge
  • 36.39c day tariff 7am-9pm any day
  • 31.42c night tariff 9pm-7am any day
  • 17c FIT 24x7

In Wellington, the night rate is less than the FIT so you can buy power back at night and make almost 2 cents while doing it.

Ouch. If I moved about 10km north to Kaiapoi this is what my tariffs would look like ... check out the daily line charge ! Rates incl GST.
