neb: Suggested musical accompaniment: The alternative Scottish anthem, a.k.a. the Universal Song for All Occasions. Warning: Explicit lyrics, but damn funny, they probably had to do a dozen takes because they couldn't keep a straight face the first eleven times.

One of the songs had in the lyrics "postcode envy"! (Lorde - Royals)

Live cross in general seems a waste of time and effort.  If you've got footage of the event as it's happening, then we don't need some reporters face in the shot.  If you've sent them to stand outside a now closed building where a thing happened at some point in the past, well, there's literally "nothing to see here, move along please".

CNNNN ("We Report, You Believe") parodied this brilliantly in their Lunchgate episode, breathless news reporting of someone who's forgotten their lunch with every worn-out "news" cliche, "Could there be an Al Qaeda connection? Was it a halal lunch?", endless crossing to experts, "Crossing now to Sally Smith, a speculation expert, to speculate on what might be behind this story", it's like a week's worth of the evening news rolled up into a single episode.

Trade Me sellers who can't estimate postage so you end up paying them with your card on buy now then have to wait whilst they work out that it will cost $10 to send the item so you then have to do a second bank transaction for $10...

Well, have you tried blowing your nose while wearing a mask?  It's really difficult.  😛

But *facepalm*. Stay the <something> at home when you are sick.  It's not that complicated an idea.

MikeB4:

That our new series Toyota Rav 4 had complete electrical meltdown this morning when my wife was driving to a meeting. All the warning lights and error messages like Collision warning system failure, ABS, Traction control system failure, Cruise control system failure and so on. The vehicle lost nearly all power and very little traction. Toyota assist told her that it would be OK to drive to the nearest service centre. Luckily that was only a kilometre away. The car struggled to get up the driveway to the service centre due to virtually no traction. At first they told her there was a charge to get it diagnosed, I wasn't there but I can imagine her reaction to that, she text me to say that they have decided that there is no charge to test.

It sounds to me that either the wiring loom has failed. The Computer has failed or it has a virus. At least it is under warranty and CGA as the vehicle is only 2 years old. I am waiting in my usual calm patient manner to hear what is going to happen.

So feedback from the dealer. Apparently there has been a catastrophic failure in the vehicle management system that has affected multiple electronics, no idea what precisely as they spoke to my wife. The dealer is in talks with Toyota NZ and it appears and the really bad news is the parts are not in Aotearoa because of Covid and I suspect the chip crisis. It could be circa 6 months. Not a good position and extremely stressful which is not good for my health and my wife does not want me to deal with this. We certainly cannot be with out a car for 6 months due to my disability and I guess we will have to purchase a second motor vehicle which is annoying as we did not want to own multiple cars again.

This is not an ideal position given we have just started a business.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

if it is a new vehicle i would get on to the dealer and say  you want a replacement vehicle while it is getting fixed

That's not good.

While the shortage of parts might be beyond their control at the moment, that's not getting them out of obligations under the CGA to repair or replace in reasonable time.  Regardless of whatever their warranty says, they are liable for consequential damages, they must give you a loaner car or replace your car if they can't meet their obligations in reasonable time.  6 months isn't "reasonable" for an ordinary common car.  If they can't support products with parts because of "circumstances", maybe they should stop selling the product until they can.  If they start crying about it, they need to be reminded that running a business carries risks - it's not a one way street where profits can be guaranteed by shafting customers when things go wrong - at least that's not how it's supposed to be.

Edit : - I agree with @MikeB4's conclusion below this post.

We purchased it new from them late 2019. If the parts are not available I am thinking that we could request a refund or replacement vehicle as it is a major fault and no parts available I feel we have a good case under the CGA

My wife has told me that I am not allowed to deal with it. Stress does not go well with my medical situation. She is one tough person and I have full faith in her ability to get a good outcome.

If you bought that thing new, and especially if it is still under warranty, they need to give you a replacement vehicle for as long as it takes. No BS!

Are Toyota locked into their normal parts channels? I'd be surprised if there weren't written off 2019 RAV4s already available. They could order a new part if that was what they have to do but use a 2nd spare meanwhile get the vehicle on the road immediately.

It is not the case of "thinking". They have the obligation to. I would just ask for a new car.

People that stand at a controlled pedestrian crossing, waiting without ever pressing the button.

People that come up to a pedestrian which is already lit up and they jab the button five times.

People at a crossing that just standing there when the light goes green.

Pedestrian crossings. Tricky things. Who knew.

People that can't reverse in a straight line but insist on reversing into carparks and end up all crooked and half over the line.
