Journeyman:People that stand at a controlled pedestrian crossing, waiting without ever pressing the button.
People that come up to a pedestrian which is already lit up and they jab the button five times..

It is not the case of "thinking". They have the obligation to. I would just ask for a new car.
The update today is Toyota NZ have accepted the warranty claim and will be covering the repairs in full and take what ever action to resolve. They have ordered the parts from Japan and requested that they be sent fastest method. They are trying today to get the car road worthy and able to be used by us if this can be done safely by using a temporary fix. We can use the loan Corolla they have provided until we are able to get the Rav back. This is looking promising and kudos to Toyota and the dealer.

On some crossings the buttons do nothing and are just pacifiers. So maybe they do know.
Given the current state of the world if I cannot activate the cross without touching unprotected I am not touching those buttons.

It's a sad state of NZ consumer protections, that most consumers feel grateful that companies are meeting their legal obligations :)
I'm glad they are sorting it for you, and the outcome was less stressful than an all-out fight that some people must undertake, but they have done exactly what they *must* do.
Handsomedan:Fred99:Despite tracking my every move, when I asked google maps to "drive home" last night via android auto, it didn't know where I lived, asked me to enter (via voice) an address as "home", then that failed as google has no idea how my street name is pronounced, trying to pronounce it different ways failed, its several "best attempts" were close but not found - and that happened despite my home address being already saved as a recent destination.
All I wanted was get an approximate ETA on a trip that was several hours long.
Both Apple Maps and Google Maps are preprogrammed with my home address as HOME.
When I click on HOME (particularly if I am in an unfamiliar part of town and forgot if it's left or right from this spot) I invariably get asked to input the address. When i do that, it then states proudly that I am navigating to HOME.
So frustrating.

Wouldn't get these kinds of issues with a horse and cart.
Very true but there would still be the waste pipe issues
Among other things. 🤣

But your rhubarb would be flourishing!
Handsomedan:When I click on HOME
Ahh, I see whatcher problem is. You're using a CLI, so clicking on HOME won't do anything, you need to "cd $HOME" to get what you want.
Or, depending on the shell, "cd ~".

That's a terrible thing. Horse poo probably tastes nicer and is less toxic.
Journeyman:You know what's worse than all that? People that push the crossing buttons:
People that stand at a controlled pedestrian crossing, waiting without ever pressing the button.
People that come up to a pedestrian which is already lit up and they jab the button five times.
People at a crossing that just standing there when the light goes green.
Pedestrian crossings. Tricky things. Who knew.
People that can't reverse in a straight line but insist on reversing into carparks and end up all crooked and half over the line.
This stupid recipe that calls for one "pack" of an ingredient. Packs come in different sizes, so this gives zero indication of how much I'm supposed to use.
