If you read all of that that article you will see there is wide spread opposition to the way the government is implementing SNA mapping. He's not "standing up for his right to sabotage the environment" he is standing up for his right to have a discussion about how his land might be impacted by SNA mapping. Rather than some faceless bureaucrat in Wellington who has never set foot on his farm making an abitrary decision that he must fence off a significant portion of his farm.

Farmers deciding for themselves what's "worth protecting" has led to a massive environmental catastrophe in NZ, and saying that is not saying that "all farmers are bad". Stock should not be in wetlands. Most farmers get that. He doesn't. End of story.
